Basic Tips to Properly Clean a Cast Iron Skillet

Everyone already knows that a cast iron skillet is one of the most efficient and commonly used tools in the kitchen. It distributes heat evenly on the food at every single part, so you get a super-delicious meal. If you’re not completely sure how to clean it, we have some great tips.

Avoid the Dishwasher

You definitely don’t want to put it in the dishwasher. Always wash it on hand. The main reason is the temperature changes in the washer, combined with the harsh chemical detergents.

Clean it Right Away

Don’t wait after you’ve finished cooking the meal. Start cleaning the iron pot right away. Feel free to do it while it’s still hot. If it’s too hot, use kitchen gloves.

Don’t Soak it In Water

If you soak the skillet you risk the chance of noticing rust. That is why you should focus on cleaning it immediately, while it’s still hot.

Dry it Completely

Once you’re done, you should make sure that the cast iron skillet is completely dry. Use a soft napkin to avoid doing any damage.

Coat it With Oil

Get a few drops of vegetable oil, and with a paper spread it all over the inside of the skillet.
