Oftentimes, bars won’t have enough room to hold everyone inside. Instead, people flock onto the streets and just stand around and have their drinks. If you do want to sit down, you will have to be ok with sitting on a stoop or even right onto the cobblestone streets.
Though it sounds strange, people in Bilbao are really laid back and aren’t worried about getting a little dirty.
Even older people participate in this culture. You shouldn’t be surprised to see a group of older women drinking wine outside a cafe, using a trashcan as their table.
