Bojnice Castle, Slovakia 🇸🇰 At first glance it looks like a newly built fairytale castle from Disneyland. The 600 year old like tree that stands on guard at the entrance says otherwise. Bojnice Castle is indeed built over a 11th century medieval castle. The Bojnice Castle was owned by several powerful noble families in Slovakia. The Pálfi family was the last in the long line and played an instrumental role into shaping the castle tourists enjoy today. Count Ján Pálfip commissioned architect J. Hubert in the 19th century to redesign the entire Palace. Hubert took inspiration from the scenic chateaus in France’s Loire Valley. That is probably why Bojnice Castle looks like a fairytale. Inside these walls is a museum with furniture and art collection from the times of the Pálfip. The most prestigious artefact is the Altar of Bojnice designed in the Late Gothic style by the Italian Nardo di Cione Ortagna in the 14th century.
