Check Out the Gorgeous Inclusive Collection From UOMA Beauty

Nowadays, beauty brands are a lot more conscious of appearing inclusive, but according to beauty expert Sharon Chuter, there is still a long way to go.

Chuter is concerned that many beauty brands are only inclusive on the surface. Consequently, she launched her own beauty brand UOMA Beauty.

Chuter explained: “They try but it comes across as shallow and it is shallow. The teams within these brands are often not diverse. So how can you create a solution to a problem that you don’t understand? This is what propelled me to set up UOMA Beauty.”

“When I started my journey with UOMA Beauty I understood how big the problem was but boy I was in for a surprise,” she continued.

“It was much worse than I had anticipated. Most of the leading labs in the world that have been manufacturing the top products for decades had no idea what to do for dark skin. Most foundation formulas that are developed are not even tested to see if they can create shades in spectrum V and VI which is dark skin. Yes, some brands are providing huge shade ranges yet the dark shades have never been tested on people with dark skin.”

Sharon also explained why it is so important to offer different formulas for different shades of foundation.

“Very fair skin tends to have hypersensitivity and redness whereas dark skin is the opposite and concerns here are hyperpigmentation and on the darker spectrum dullness,” she said. “If different skin tones have different needs, then why is there one formula for everyone?”
