Gucci has announced that they will be going carbon neutral.

The fashion giant has declared that they will be making a conscious effort to reduce their CO2 emissions. They will also be working with the UN project “Redd+” to reduce emissions from deforestation on four international conservations.

“The more time that goes by, the more reports from the scientists are clear – the planet has gone too far,” Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri told The Guardian.

He continued: “Offsetting is better than not doing anything, and if in the long-term it can be done (differently) we can look at that. But there is a danger, to (thousands of people) to go too much in a different direction (too quickly).”

If Gucci were to shut down their factories, 18,000 people would lose their jobs. Instead, they are focused on reducing their negative environmental impact and going carbon neutral is an admirable start. It is now down to other fashion retailers to follow.
