How Much Protein Do You Actually Need?

How much protein a person needs in their diet is somewhat of a controversial topic.

The baseline for this is that you need a minimum of your weight in kilograms multiples by 0.8. Whatever the number comes out to be is the minimum amount of grams of protein your body needs every day. However, this can change for a variety of reasons.

If you’re someone who works out a lot, you’ll obviously need more protein in your diet, but it also depends on how much activity you do on a regular basis. For an average person going to the gym a few times a week or doing yoga every other day, you will need to multiply your weight by more like 1.2-1.5 to see how many grams of protein you need.

Even if you do decide to up your protein, that doesn’t necessarily mean you need to start eating more animal proteins to get it. Every fruit, vegetable, and whole grain has protein in them, so you should try to get as much protein from these sources as you can. Not only are they healthy, but they give you the protein you need plus other vitamins and minerals to keep your body going.
