Is Breakfast the Most Important Meal of the Day?

You have all heard the saying “breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” but is this true? There are so many studies conducted around this topic and nothing is conclusive. For weight loss, though, it isn’t only important what you are eating for breakfast, but when you eat breakfast.

Although, starting your day with something healthy in your stomach will dictate how your meals will go for the rest of the day. Eating something sugary for breakfast will most likely make you crave sugar throughout the rest of the day and make bad food choices.

It’s recommended to eat breakfast within two hours of waking up, this will set the pace for a healthy appetite and stabilize your blood sugars for the day. When your blood sugar gets low this can trigger cravings and overeating throughout the day. It also re-starts your metabolism after sleeping all night.

Even if you really hate to eat in the morning you should eat something small. Skipping breakfast can increase your risk of getting type 2 diabetes and it can also slow down metabolism. Drinking a glass of water when you wake up to hydrate is also very important, then you should eat something small like a piece of fruit or yogurt. Once your body gets used to eating something small in the morning you can start making breakfast a daily routine.
