Smoothies are essential because they make it easier to incorporate healthy ingredients into diets. When you blend vegetables and fruits instead of extracting the juice, it offers a balanced blend of fat, protein and carbs. This makes it suitable for substitute meals, and it is also filling. Here are some tips to make it healthier:

Reduce added sweeteners

Use whole fruit as a sweetener instead of artificial sweeteners. Fruit provides vitamins, fiber, minerals, and other crucial phytonutrients as well. Use a cup of frozen or fresh fruit as your smoothie base. Some fruits such dates are perfect for this purpose. Many people use them as an excellent substitute for artificial sweetener.

Use vegetables

If you want a richer blend, add some vegetables to your smoothie. This gives it a rich taste while providing the necessary nutrients in one serving. Some recommended vegetables for this purpose include spinach leaves, canned pureed pumpkin, beets,  and carrots.

Puree in Protein

Protein is very important in all meals, so ensure that your smoothie is rich in protein. If you cannot prepare a full protein smoothie, add a protein-rich ingredient. This will also make it more filling. You can even take it as a full breakfast or as an afternoon snack.
