Tootsie Tomanetz might be 83 years old, but she’s still cranking out some of the best BBQ in all of Texas.
Texas Monthly Magazine named her restaurant in Lexington, Texas, called Snow’s BBQ, the best BBQ in Texas 2017. Tootsie’s story is one of hard work, dedication, and ultimately the best BBQ you’ll probably ever taste in your life.
Tootsie was born and raised in Lexington and continued to live and work there as an adult. She worked in the school system in the maintenance department, but in 2003, Snow’s BBQ opened and she was asked to be the pitmaster of that place.
Tootsie had always had BBQ as a kid growing up, but she only got it on Saturdays. That was the inspiration for the place to only be open one day of the week, on Saturdays, so the tradition of keeping BBQ sacred could continue.
For over 15 years, Tootsie has made the best Texas-style BBQ with briskets and more for not only the locals but for people who travel far and wide to taste her BBQ. Though it takes her staying up all night to make, when the doors to Snow’s open at 8 am on Saturday, she feels right at home.
