Save Money by DIY Couch Cleaning

How often do you clean your couch? It’s a task most of us avoid as much as we can, but when the time comes, we often don’t know how to properly do it so we pay someone else to do it instead.

What if we told you that deep cleaning your couch is easier than you thought and that you can do it by yourself, saving some money that you can spend on better things? Here’s how.

First thing to do is check the label — see what material is your couch made of and how it should be taken care of. For example, W means that it can be washed with water, WS means that you can use a combination of water washing and dry cleaning, X means that you can only vacuum it, and S means that you can only use dry cleaning.

In case your couch comes with a W tag on the label, you can proceed. Vacuum it thoroughly and make sure you didn’t miss any corners and folds. Sprinkle the whole thing with baking soda (you may want to check how your couch reacts on it first on a small part) and leave for half an hour. It will help you get rid of stains and smells. Take a wet sponge and use it to remove the baking soda from your couch. Finish with a dry cloth.
