]]> Not that long ago, our great-grandmothers and even grandmothers were washing the laundry by using wooden ashes. However, with the appearance of laundry detergent, this old-school method has been forgotten. Nowadays, the shelves are full of washing powders which are all full of chemicals that are bad for your body and could trigger allergies.

Do you have a sensitive skin? Have you ever considered making your own laundry powder? It may sound silly, but it will do the magic and will save you a couple of bucks, as well.

The supplies you will be needing:

  • 2 cups (finely) grated castile soap
  • 1 cup borax
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup soda ash (washing soda)

These measurements make approximately 5 cups.

Method:

Mix all the ingredients together and store it in an airtight jar. Depending on whether you have hard or soft water, you might need to adjust the sodas a bit, and the amount used per load. Before you use your DIY laundry powder, give the jar a good shake to prevent the soap flakes from settling to the bottom.
