]]>Marie-Christine Osselin of Moet and Chandon, a famous French winery, told The Drinks Business in an interview that french fries are one of the best foods to pair with a lovely glass of sparkling champagne.
According to Osselin, who is the wine quality and communication manager of the winery, champagne works wonderfully with small, salty dishes. However, the salty crunchiness of fries especially complement the bubbly, zesty acidity of champagne.
Some foodies have caught on to this trendy pair years ago. In fact, Sylvain, an elegant restaurant in New Orleans has had champagne and fries on their menu for ages. The dish is called “the perfect combination” and it has ended up becoming one of the most famous and popular appetizers at the eatery. The dish goes for a whopping $50 for a small serving and $90 for the larger order.
“I’ve bene saying this for years. Basically, salt and fat plus high acid and bubbles equals a great combo,” says Ray Isle, Food & Wine’s wine editor.
