The world’s most visited art museum recently celebrated its 30th anniversary of the Louvre Pyramid in Paris with a monumental art installation. Hundreds of volunteers tirelessly worked to bring it to life, but it took less than a day for the whole thing to vanish without a trace.

In order to understand how this happened, you must know what this installation was all about. French street artist Jean Rene came up with this optical illusion, consisting of thousands of pieces of paper, which made it seem like the pyramid is emerging from a rocky abyss.

Unfortunately, paper happens to be an extremely fragile and easily degradable material. It didn’t take long for it to be completely destroyed once thousands of tourists flooded the attraction. They walked all over the commemorative art installation, and some even took pieces of paper with them as a souvenir.

Jean Rene didn’t seem to be disappointed by this outcome, and he felt that the destruction of his art work adds an extra layer to its meaning.

“The images, like life, are ephemeral. Once pasted, the art pieces lives on its own. The sun dries the light glue and with every step, people tear pieces of the fragile paper,” wrote Rene on his website.
