DIY beauty hacks can either be lifesavers or totally exacerbate the problem. Everyone loves to save a buck, and the internet is subsequently filled with quick beauty fixes. This is especially true when it comes to skincare, an area where everyone seems to have an idea of how to get rid of pimples fast.

When it comes to zits, most people have no idea whether it’s better to pop them or leave them to dry out naturally. For people who prefer the latter technique but are in a rush to get clearer skin, putting ointments on the spot to speed up the process is tempting.

Of course, ointments can be expensive, which is why people started coming up with their own DIY beauty hacks. One of the most popular ideas is toothpaste. Unfortunately, the “quick fix” actually wreaks havoc on our skin.

Erin Norden from Clean Beauty Market told Femail: “Toothpaste applied on the skin disrupts the acid mantle. People apply it to a blemish thinking it will dry the pimple out but what it does is irritate the skin and causes redness.”

So yes, toothpaste will dry out your spot but the chemicals are also bad for your skin and are far more likely to cause irritation. So please, stop putting toothpaste on your face!
