This New Bookstore In China Looks Like a Palace

YJY Maike Centre Flagship book store recently opened in China and judging by its magnificent interior, this place will soon become a haven for all the bookworms in the country. Nearly 50,000 square feet of space was transformed into a modern bookstore with massive chandeliers and pieces of paper floating above the spiral staircase.

Japanese designer Tomoko Ikegai from Ikg Inc, used this space to combine elements of the library with those of the gallery and evoke a unique experience of culture and art.

“Libraries are spaces for learning and valuing independent time, while galleries serve as intellectual spaces for displaying culture. The design blends elements of both and also incorporates features of palace architecture in order to encourage visitors and the store to collaboratively exchange and develop creative ideas”, IKG Inc shared.

On the first floor in the lobby, visitors are greeted by a 33-foot-tall bookcase even though they haven’t stepped into a bookstore yet. The second floor, on the other hand, is perfect for those who want to read or work in quiet, as the space is designed like a lounge.
