Try This DIY Coconut Lip Balm

Coconut oil has many health and beauty benefits and most of us have already tried using it for cooking, as a hair mask, or as a face moisturizer. What you probably didn’t know is that you can use this amazing oil to make your own lip balm at home.

We know that the idea of making DIY lip balm sounds a bit unnecessary and complicated, but it’s actually not. First, it’s not complicated if you follow the recipe. But most importantly, you’ll know exactly what kind of ingredients you’re using to make your lip balm, which is great. This lip balm will help your lips stay hydrated and shiny all day long and it also smells incredible.

Huda Beauty shared this interesting recipe on their website, commenting that this “lip balm leaves your lips feeling super soft and nourished, plus it has a sweet rose tint.” That’s more than enough reasons to give this DIY lip balm a chance.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp of virgin coconut oil
  • 2 tsp of Argan oil
  • 2 tsp of Olive oil
  • Colored berry lipstick

Instructions:

  1. In a pan on a low heat, melt together the coconut oil with about 1 cm of lipstick and add it into the pan.
  2. Add in the oils and stir well.
  3. Leave it on the heat for two to three minutes and then pour it into a small dish or an old lip balm tin.
  4. Leave it in the fridge to set for a few hours.

I tried something new! I made some lip balm at home! It’s pretty cheap, very natural, and super easy. So much so that I can’t believe I didn’t try it sooner. 😍😍⁣ ⁣ What’s great is that you can easily infuse your homemade lip balm with essential oils. The Young Living vitality line is perfect for this purpose because it’s labeled safe for ingestion by the FDA. 💧⁣ ⁣ I used Tangerine Vitality for this batch. 🍊 What oil/flavor would you infuse? ⁣ ⁣ I’ve seen recipes that use lemon, lime, lavender, basil, and others. Most of the time you’ll find citrus and herbal flavors are best suited for lip balms. 🍋🌱⁣ ⁣ The recipe I used makes a soft, smooth lip balm with a hint of tangerine flavor. It yields about 8 of these plastic tubes of lip balm and it’s super easy. Just follow these steps:⁣ ⁣ 1) Get your empty lip balm tubes ready. Line them up, take off the caps, and make sure they’re clean. ✨⁣ ⁣ 2) Melt your coconut wax by popping it in the microwave for like 30 seconds. Then add 3 Tablespoons of coconut oil to a small mason jar. Add a tablespoon of beeswax pellets to the mason jar, too. 🥄⁣ ⁣ 3) Add some water to a saucepan. Set the mason jar in the saucepan to make a double boiler. Melt the beeswax in the coconut oil and remove it from the heat. 🔥⁣ ⁣ 4) When the pellets are melted, add 20 drops of your choice of essential oil. Mix it in completely. 🍊⁣ ⁣ 5) Use a pipette to transfer the mixture from the jar to the lip balm containers. Fill them all the way to the top because they’ll shrink a bit as they cool off. ❄️⁣ ⁣ 6) Give them a few hours to cool off and you’ve got yourself a fresh batch of natural lip balm! 👏⁣ ⁣ This fresh batch is going to be part of the swag bags for @rocwomin’s women’s retreat. I’m so excited to share them!
