Just as Game of Thrones ended, another HBO show quietly became the top-rated TV show of all time on IMDB. Chernobyl was created by Craig Mazin and stars Jared Harris as the leading Soviet nuclear physicist Valery Legasov.

On April 26th, 1986, a disastrous explosion happened at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant near the city of Pripyat, in the north of the Ukranian SSR. The power plant explosion emitted radioactive substances across around 40,000 square miles and it was the first accident that caused fatalities from radiation.

Even though IMDB voting can be problematic at times, a look at the list of top 10 or top 50 all-time favorites it’s hard to complain about it. That’s why we’re surprised that Chernobyl quickly managed to win them all. There are only five episodes and four of them are available on HBO Now and HBO Go. The final one premiers on June 3rd.
