Many people know of the famous Camino de Santiago, or pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in the northwest of Spain. This is one of the three most famous pilgrimages in Catholicism, but beyond that, the city of Santiago is so beautiful and well worth a visit! If you need further convincing, read on.

Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela

The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is something out of a fairy tale. The church is absolutely massive, and completely stunning inside and out. The church began being built in the late 11th century and was finished in the 1211, which means it’s over 800 years old!

Alameda Park

This is no normal park, and has beautiful large tree lined paths that are so dreamy and serene. The park is also host to some of the best views of the cathedral, which means the perfect spot for a photo-opp! There are also many quirky statues and sculptures, including one of two women in brightly colored outfits, called “The Two Mary’s”, which portray two women who used to come to the park at the same time every day.

Nightlife

Surprisingly enough, Santiago has an amazing food scene and nightlife despite it’s small size. You can get great traditional tapas, wonderful cheeses and dance the night away in the center of the city.
