Whether you live with sensitive skin all year round or it tends to become a problem as the seasons change and the climate drops, it’s especially important to look after your skin in the winter.

To avoid skin feeling tight, pink and flaky, here are 5 tips for looking after sensitive skin.

Moisturize daily

It’s even more important to hydrate your skin when the weather is colder. Use a deep moisturizer to help renew skin-cells and keep your skin happy and hydrated.

Change out of wet clothes straight away

If you get caught in the rain, make sure you change out of your clothes, shoes and socks as soon as you can. The damp can irritate your skin and cause itchiness so it is best to keep as dry as you can.

Stay hydrated

Make sure you are drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day to make sure your skin is getting hydrated from the inside as well as the outside.

Apply sunscreen

Even if the sun isn’t obviously out, its harmful UV rays can penetrate clouds and cause skin damage. It’s therefore important to wear sunscreen even on winter days.

Cleanse gently

Limit your soap and cleansing as much as you can in winter as the use of soap can cause skin irritation in the cold as it strips the skin of its natural barrier. Use fragrance-free gentle cleansers which won’t dry out the skin.
