The holidays are all about spending time with family and friends, eating together, exchanging gifts, and overall having a great time. However, these get-togethers can often lead to a lot of waste, which no one wants to clean up, and is actually really bad for the environment and your wallet. Instead, check out these tips to being more eco-friendly this holiday season and make a change for the better.

Single Use Plastics

Plastics that can only be used one time like straws and silverware are really bad for the environment. Instead, use real silverware and opt for no straws at your gatherings. If you don’t have enough silverware, ask friends to bring some from home or go to a charity shop and you can get loads for next to nothing.

Presents

Presents are often wrapped in wrapping paper which cannot be recycled. Instead, encourage friends and family to use brown paper that can be recycled, or to carefully open presents so the wrapping paper can be used again for the following years.

Meat

Meat is usually the centerpiece for a holiday dinner, but animal production actually has a large impact on the environment. Consider having more vegetarian options at your table for the environment and for people with dietary restrictions.
