Kombucha is an awesome probiotic-filled drink that is super fun to make at home! But, before you start, you need to get yourself a SCOBY, or symbiotic community of bacteria and yeast. Here are two ways to get one!

Ask a Friend

So many people are making kombucha these days, you’ll surely to be able to get a SCOBY from a friend, or a friend of a friend. After you make your first batch of kombucha you will have more than one SCOBY growing, and most people will save them to give to other people, so reach out to your community and there will definitely be someone who can’t wait to help you out.

DIY

You can actually make a SCOBY at home as long as you have a bottle of organic plain kombucha. First, bring 7 cups of water to a boil, and then add in 4 bags of organic black tea. Turn off the heat, add in 1/2 cup of sugar, stir, and let brew for 10 minutes. Then, once it’s cool, pour it into a jar along with the bottle of kombucha. Cover it with a cheesecloth or anything like it, put it in a dark place, and in 1-4 weeks there will be a SCOBY ready for you to use!
