More and more women choose to dye their hair at home and color kits have come a long way. There are new formulas these days which make coloring at home more effective, affordable, and easier.

For first-timers

You may not know what to expect if you’re dyeing your hair for the first time. Well, it doesn’t take much time to do so and many kits come with damage-blocking technology so you don’t have to worry.

Choose a Color

It’s best to choose a color that’s two shades lighter than your normal hair color. Either that or choose a color that’s a shade darker to make sure your hair still looks natural.

For dry and damaged hair

If your hair strands lack moisture and are brittle, choose a product with a formula that will condition your hair to prevent further dryness. Then you can be sure that your hair will feel smooth and look shiny after the treatment.

Thank you @pinchme and @clairolcolor for sending me this complimentary hair color to try! For the past 5-6 years I’ve been going to Sally’s beauty and buying hair color with a 20volume developer since I’m usually just trying to cover my grays verses doing a whole color change. I started doing that because store bought box dye was just too irritating. ( I deal with Seborrheic Dermatitis-yes my Dermatologist knows I dye my hair and he didn’t say I needed to stop) Thank God cause I’m only 35 with a head full of grays 🤣thank you genetics 😒! Usually when I do color my hair I get some flaking a few days later no matter what I use but I won’t know how my scalp reacts to this for a few more days still. I can say that it didn’t feel as irritating as normal. I used @clairolcolor new formula last night and I have to say I was pretty impressed. Not only does it smell great( lets be real…you will still smell some of normal chemical odor that hair color has) but it has this fresh floral scent to it that makes it more tolerable. I loved how quickly this formula blended together while I was shaking it up. My other brand( while I love it) takes me a few minutes of shaking to get the color and developer to combine due to its thicker consistency. When I started application, I was worried that the thinner texture of this would make it messier but I was happy to see that it’s applied easily to my hair and stayed in place the whole 25 minutes it takes to develop. Oh yes, I said 25 minutes. My other brand takes 45 minutes for gray coverage. It washed out fairly easy as well and left me with a great head of dark brown hair! What grays??? Who has grays?? Not me!! At least not for a few more weeks 🤣🤣🤣! #pinchme #happypincher #happypinchers #haircolor #hairdye #athomehaircolor #clairolhaircolor #darkbrownhair #hair #haircare #haircolor #diyhaircolor #clairol #graycoverage #grayhair #idonthavegrayhair #beauty #nograys #goodbyegrayhair #goodbyegreyhair #greycoverage #nogreyhair #nogreyhairhere #colorfearlessly

For gray hair

Choose a product which will give you natural-looking highlights and tones so you can go back to looking like your old self before those pesky grays.

For those with sensitive skin

Search for a product which won’t cause an allergic reaction to your scalp. Before using the product, test it at least 2 days before you plan to color your hair.
