In a world where green spaces are cherished but often limited, vertical gardens are a creative solution. Vertical gardens, also known as living walls or green walls, are an amazing way to add some green, even if you don’t have a lot of space. Here’s how you can set one up.

Selecting the Right Space

Before diving into the creation of your vertical garden, find a suitable space within your home. Consider factors such as available light, temperature, and access to water. South-facing windows or well-lit areas with natural sunlight are ideal.

Choose the Plants

When choosing your plants, opt for ones that are well-suited for vertical growth, such as ferns, succulents, trailing vines, and air plants. Herbs and small vegetables like cherry tomatoes or lettuce can also work well.

Determine the Structure

There are great pre-made vertical planters you can purchase or you can set up a DIY structure using recycled materials like pallets or hanging pockets. Either way, make sure the structure is sturdy enough to support the weight of the plants and has adequate drainage to prevent water accumulation.

Planting

Start by placing larger plants or those with trailing growth habits at the top to allow for cascading effects. Water them regularly and enjoy your new garden!
