Saving money is never easy, especially if you constantly don’t have any of it left by the end of the month. It takes some effort and discipline, but it’s possible to save up even if you’re living paycheck to paycheck.

Here’s how:

Know Your “Why”

You need to have a reason why you want to save and it will motivate you to do it. Whether it’s a vacation, down payment for a house, or just financial security, figure out your “why” first.

Start Fresh

Open a new savings account and get excited about watching it grow over time.

Be Merciless With Your Bills

Go through your bills and see where you could be paying less. Try to get discounts for services you’ve been using for a long time, such as credit cards and car insurance.

Save First

If you want to save “whatever’s leftover” by the end of the month, you won’t get too far. It’s really important to save first then spend whatever’s left.

Multiple Income Sources

It’s always a good idea to try and earn some additional money that you can save. Instead of asking for more hours at your job, try something else during your spare time so you’ll have more than one sources of income.

For most of us, spring is the best time to take a break from material joys and go out to enjoy nature. This is why now is the time to join the #nobuychallenge trend – perhaps for a whole month?

This challenge is a great way to fight the impulse shopping habits as well as to save some money for more important things. If you need some tips on where to start, consider setting a no-buy goal for these categories.

🐪💖 Pink Wednesday #motd 💖🐪 . @volitionbeauty Prismatic Luminizing Shield SPF 50 @glossier Wowder and Cloud Paint in Storm @jouercosmetics Rose Gold Blush Duo @narsissist Orgam After Glow Lip Balm . I have a confession you guys… I am a terrible driver. It’s not that I have a bad diving record, I just get really nervous behind the wheel and try to not drive as much as possible! I am especially bad with highways and long distances… 🙈😅 . Which leads me to my random impulse buy of the day- this pinky beige scarf you see here by #loveandlore . I live about an hr and 20-30mins drive (on the highway 😰…) away from school but usually take the public transit to school. This takes me about 2hrs to get here. I know it sounds long but I nap/ read/ chat on the phone/ catch up on socials so it’s not too bad at all. (Saves me from having to drive!) BUT! The bus driver cranks up the AC really high in the warmer months, so much so that I feel like I might get sick from being in and out of the bus! 🙈 (has anyone else experienced this on the GO Bus?😅) . Though the scarf is very soft and really pretty, and it is getting colder so it will be very useful, I have tons of them and didn’t really need another. I feel like I have spent waaayyy too much in the last couple of months, and will be going into a no buy till the holidays (hopefully I can last till then🤞🏼). I even picked up a few things on the holiday Sephora Holiday preview🙈! I have a ton of things to test out and review, so I’m going to try to get through it all and not buy more. Wish me luck!! . As always I hope you guys are having a great week so far! If you want to join me for this no buy, dm me and we can keep talk each other out of buying things! 😘💕 . #femfeed#palmcrew23#pinkaesthetic#pinkwednesday#fallvibes

Books

We bet you have plenty of reading material at home so it shouldn’t be a problem not to buy new ones for a month.

Gadgets

A new phone case? Again? Only if your old one actually broke or tore apart.

Makeup & Skincare

Decide to shop your stash for a month, even if you use up something you think you can’t live without. Chances are, you already own a decent replacement.

Eating Out

Instead of going to restaurants on the weekends, how about cooking something for your friends?

Does money somehow sneak out of your account month after month leaving you feeling like you have no control over it? After a long, cold winter that had us shopping mindlessly in order to feel a little better, it’s time for a detox. Here are 3 best ways to start saving more money this March.

Cancel Subscriptions

Go over automated billing and figure out if you need all those services and subscriptions you pay for every month. Do you actually have time to watch both Netflix and Hulu? Are you honestly using your gym subscription? Cancel everything that doesn’t bring you any value.

Start Budgeting

Budgeting can look overwhelming, especially if you’ve never done it before, but you can actually start simple and go from there. Allocate a certain amount of money for bills that need to be paid, for savings, and for general spending. Adjust monthly to fit your needs.

Meal Prep

Spring is the perfect time to get into meal prepping. All those fresh ingredients are available and you can easily make food for the whole week in advance. Imagine all that money you spend on eating out piling up by the end of the month!
