There are some obvious places that people first think are expensive like New York City and Paris, but there are some places that are really beautiful yet surprisingly expensive. If you go to any of these places, make sure you make a budget before you go.

Tel Aviv

Some things in Tel Aviv are very cheap, like produce from the market and public transport. But, there is a huge tax on alcohol in all of Israel, which makes going out pretty expensive. An average beer cost about $8, so you may want to pregame before you go out.

Reykjavik

Iceland’s capital is really beautiful to visit, especially the surrounding nature. However, it is also really expensive because of all the high taxes. The Icelandic government does this so it doesn’t get too crowded, but it’s difficult being a tourist there because of it.

Sydney

All of Australia is expensive, but Sydney is the most expensive city. Hotels are really pricey, food is extremely expensive, although the quality of everything is very high. Also, if you’re into shopping, you might want to stay away from the shops since they are also extremely overpriced.

]]> There are some places in the world that are, unfortunately, very expensive to visit as a tourist. But don’t be discouraged! Just because you want to see an expensive place doesn’t mean you have to shell out tons of dough. Follow these tips and you can see the world and stick to your budget.

Off Season

The easiest way to see a place is in it’s off season. Usually when you do you can save at least 20%-30% on lodging, rental cards, and more. Even though you’re not going perhaps when it’s best to see the city or country, that doesn’t mean you’ll have a less amazing time or see all the amazing sites.

Duty Free

A lot of places, especially in Europe, have really steep prices for alcohol. Instead of spending all your money out on wine and cocktails, pick up a few bottles at the airport so you can live within your means but still have loads of fun on your trip.

Duty Free Stores: Are these good bottles or just a tourist trap?⁣ ⁣ Another airport means another duty free store. Duty Free Stores are often testing grounds for whiskies to see if they will do well before entering the US market. One example is the Kavalan Solist Cask series. You could only get the cask strength expressions like Sherry, Port, and Vihno Barrique internationally before, but now they have it in the United States after dropping the “Solist” from the label. ⁣ ⁣ There were quite a few bottles I saw but it was hard to get a gauge on whether they were good or just a gimmick.⁣ ⁣ The heavy hitters in this particular store were Balevnie 30, Macallan Oscuro, and Macallan Rare Cask Black. ⁣ ⁣ @cal_aberlour swore by the Glenmorangie Signet and said it’s a great pickup. ⁣ ⁣ @paulexster recommended Ballentines 30 after picking it up on his last trip to South Korea. ⁣ ⁣ As for anything else, who knows 🤷‍♀️ ⁣ ⁣ What do you guys think? One of the easiest ways to save on cost is by cooking as many meals as you can instead of going out to eat for every meal every day of your trip. This will also keep you healthier than eating out so much.
