One In, One Out

To prevent clutter and accumulation of clothes you never wear, it’s a good idea to implement the “one in, one out” rule where you have to take something out of your wardrobe each time you buy something new. It doesn’t have to be something from the same category, but we recommend you no to cheat and throw out a pair of socks when you get a new bag, for example.

Have a Limited Number of Hangers

If you’re into fashion, your closet can bring you plenty of joy, but only if it’s neat and organized. A good idea is to limit the number of hangers – you can, for example, buy a certain amount of nice hangers you love, and that’s the final number of the clothes you can hang.

Store Clothes in Boxes

There are always clothes that you don’t want to display at the moment but also don’t want to get rid of, such as seasonal clothes or special occasion dresses. Store them in boxes and keep in your closet or out of it, wherever it’s most convenient.

I finally cleaned out this main upstairs linen closet we have, and gave it a colourful practical makeover using inexpensive materials from a few Dollar Stores and Home Sense (Swipe left to see the before😬🤭). First thing I did was purge out all the stuff (Marie Kondo style) and went through all the crap I just don’t need anymore, why oh why am I hanging onto sheets from my first apartment from 20 years ago??🤷🏻‍♀️ After that was done, I lined all the shelves with cute floral contact paper from The Dollar Tree and then organized everything that was left with cute baskets from the Dollarama and Home Sense. I finished my master linen closet organization project! Full disclosure: Our current house is blessed with THREE linen closets. Before this place, I never lived anywhere with more than one. So here’s my “minimalist” breakdown: I have two sets of towels per family member plus two guest. They’re all white. Most of them are stored in here because everyone including the tiny humans bathes in here. The small box at the bottom has face towels and a couple smaller towels. Sheets: I have a total of 5 sets for the 3 full/queen beds. I only have 1 set for our King because my favorite set got worn out and I haven’t replaced it yet. I was going to make it my Christmas present but I decided after 6.5 years of nonstop pregnancies/nursing that new bras were more important. Honestly I like to let the mattresses air out while I wash the sheets on Fridays and then I just put the same set back on. I have baskets for toiletries, polish, extra soap and feminine products. I got them at the dollar store! The jars are DIY bath salts because I love taking relaxing baths, which is why I try to make the whole master bath very spa-like. I keep NOTHING on my vanity countertop except soap and a decor piece. The top box has some extra fabric for when I take on projects like DIY Halloween costumes. Ps. If you are doing the no spend challenge, do NOT run out and spend money on storage totes. Organizing is what comes after minimizing and decluttering your space. ]]> Everyone should keep a “maybe box” in their home. A maybe box is a box of things that you keep away for a few months to see if you actually need the things inside of it, or if you could do away with them. There are a few tricks to nail a maybe box, so here are some tips to get started.

Time

Once you go through your things and you decide to keep, donate, and then finally put things into the maybe box, put it away and don’t look at it for at least a couple of months. This will give you time to readjust to life without the items, and see how much you miss using or having them.

Memory

Once it has been at least a couple months, before you open the box try to see if you can remember everything you put in there. If you find that you’re having trouble remembering, that can be a good sign that you actually don’t need the things in the box anymore!

Reintroducing

If there are things in the box that you want back into your home, find a physical place to put them instead of tossing them somewhere. This is more intentional and will make the item feel more special.

It doesn’t have to be something from the same category, but we recommend you no to cheat and throw out a pair of socks when you get a new bag, for example.

Have a Limited Number of Hangers

If you’re into fashion, your closet can bring you plenty of joy, but only if it’s neat and organized. A good idea is to limit the number of hangers – you can, for example, buy a certain amount of nice hangers you love, and that’s the final number of the clothes you can hang.

Store Clothes in Boxes

There are always clothes that you don’t want to display at the moment but also don’t want to get rid of, such as seasonal clothes or special occasion dresses. Store them in boxes and keep in your closet or out of it, wherever it’s most convenient.

I finally cleaned out this main upstairs linen closet we have, and gave it a colourful practical makeover using inexpensive materials from a few Dollar Stores and Home Sense (Swipe left to see the before😬🤭). First thing I did was purge out all the stuff (Marie Kondo style) and went through all the crap I just don’t need anymore, why oh why am I hanging onto sheets from my first apartment from 20 years ago??🤷🏻‍♀️ After that was done, I lined all the shelves with cute floral contact paper from The Dollar Tree and then organized everything that was left with cute baskets from the Dollarama and Home Sense. I finished my master linen closet organization project! Full disclosure: Our current house is blessed with THREE linen closets. Before this place, I never lived anywhere with more than one. So here’s my “minimalist” breakdown: I have two sets of towels per family member plus two guest. They’re all white. Most of them are stored in here because everyone including the tiny humans bathes in here. The small box at the bottom has face towels and a couple smaller towels. Sheets: I have a total of 5 sets for the 3 full/queen beds. I only have 1 set for our King because my favorite set got worn out and I haven’t replaced it yet. I was going to make it my Christmas present but I decided after 6.5 years of nonstop pregnancies/nursing that new bras were more important. Honestly I like to let the mattresses air out while I wash the sheets on Fridays and then I just put the same set back on. I have baskets for toiletries, polish, extra soap and feminine products. I got them at the dollar store! The jars are DIY bath salts because I love taking relaxing baths, which is why I try to make the whole master bath very spa-like. I keep NOTHING on my vanity countertop except soap and a decor piece. The top box has some extra fabric for when I take on projects like DIY Halloween costumes. Ps. If you are doing the no spend challenge, do NOT run out and spend money on storage totes. Organizing is what comes after minimizing and decluttering your space. ]]> Everyone should keep a “maybe box” in their home. A maybe box is a box of things that you keep away for a few months to see if you actually need the things inside of it, or if you could do away with them. There are a few tricks to nail a maybe box, so here are some tips to get started.

Time

Once you go through your things and you decide to keep, donate, and then finally put things into the maybe box, put it away and don’t look at it for at least a couple of months. This will give you time to readjust to life without the items, and see how much you miss using or having them.

Memory

Once it has been at least a couple months, before you open the box try to see if you can remember everything you put in there. If you find that you’re having trouble remembering, that can be a good sign that you actually don’t need the things in the box anymore!

Reintroducing

If there are things in the box that you want back into your home, find a physical place to put them instead of tossing them somewhere. This is more intentional and will make the item feel more special.
