Back pain is one of the most common medical problems nowadays, especially among people who spend most of their day sitting. Fortunately, there are many exercises that can help us prevent and ease this pain. Make this workout a part of your morning and daily routine and your back will be thankful.

Cat-Camel Back Stretch

Arch your back towards the ceiling and hold for 5 seconds. Then drop your chest toward the floor and hold for 5 seconds. Repeat this 10 times. This exercise stretches every bone and nerve in your spine so it’s very effective.

Knees to Chest

Not only is this exercise good for your lower back muscles, but it’s also very relaxing, increases flexibility and reduces stiffness.

Kneeling Lunge

Kneeling lunge stretches are good for engaging your core and abdominal muscles. It also improves your balance and posture while reducing back pain.

Child’s Pose

This basic and relaxing pose will improve the mobility of the spine while keeping muscles in the lower back relaxed. It’s also great for digestion and perfect for calming at the end of the workout.

Sitting around for long periods of time is one of those bad habits that modern age has brought with it. Most modern jobs require from us that we sit at a desk for many hours, day by day.

Stretching is not reserved only for priming yourself before a workout, it’s a great, simple way to awake and prepare your body for the day. We stretch before a workout because we want to prevent injuries, but these injuries can happen during everyday activities as well.

Whether you’re a fitness buff or the occasional jogger, there is one muscle that across the board doesn’t get stretched enough until it’s too late: your glutes. Although it might seem silly to have to stretch your butt, your gluteus maximus is actually one of the strongest muscles in your body. Your glutes are your sense of power that goes down to your hamstrings, quads, hips, and even your knees.

Because your glutes control so many other parts of your body, it’s really important to make sure it’s properly stretched. If you don’t stretch it, it can get really tight and give you a lot of problems, especially in your hips and hip flexors. If you’re prone to tight hips, you should think about stretching your glutes more and see if that helps the problem. If you’re also doing a lot of squats and other exercises to increase your quad or hamstring strength, stretching the glutes is a must.

Some good stretches to get you going is pigeon pose, which is actually a yoga position but feels great for tight hips and glutes. Another classic is lunges, which you can do with your leg straight off the ground or with a bent knee. Another really good one is to lay on your back, put your foot onto your opposite thigh to make a 4, and left up that leg to bring it close to your chest.

Hip Stretching

Your hips can be under a lot of pressure, so you definitely need to practice more stretching exercises. Start by doing them in the morning, before going to work.

Your hip sockets, shoulders, and elbows must have mobility when riding. This mobility matches the movement and rhythm of the horse, and without it, we bounce, lose balance, and/or stiffen up on the horse. This then translates to a tight, stiff horse that can’t move freely through their back.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It is important that you not only work on your strength but also your mobility(!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The "low lunge" is one of my favorite stretches to help with hip mobility as it's great for loosening up your deep hip flexor muscles and adductors.⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How to do it:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ~ Start by kneeling on the ground (put a pad under your knee if this bothers you) and step one leg out in front. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ~ Place your hands on top of your knee/thigh on the front leg and gently press forward into your hips until you feel a stretch. Keep your core engaged to avoid over-arching your lower back. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ~ Option to reach your arms up overhead and maybe look slightly upwards for an additional stretch. Hip Stretching

Your hips can be under a lot of pressure, so you definitely need to practice more stretching exercises. Start by doing them in the morning, before going to work.

Your hip sockets, shoulders, and elbows must have mobility when riding. This mobility matches the movement and rhythm of the horse, and without it, we bounce, lose balance, and/or stiffen up on the horse. This then translates to a tight, stiff horse that can’t move freely through their back.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It is important that you not only work on your strength but also your mobility(!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The "low lunge" is one of my favorite stretches to help with hip mobility as it's great for loosening up your deep hip flexor muscles and adductors.⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How to do it:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ~ Start by kneeling on the ground (put a pad under your knee if this bothers you) and step one leg out in front. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ~ Place your hands on top of your knee/thigh on the front leg and gently press forward into your hips until you feel a stretch. Keep your core engaged to avoid over-arching your lower back. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ~ Option to reach your arms up overhead and maybe look slightly upwards for an additional stretch.
