People from the Balkans are known as hard-core meat eaters. There is even a saying that describes their kitchen perfectly: “They eat meat with meat.” Although animal products are the main ingredients in their cuisine, there are vegan-friendly dishes as well that are yummy and easy to make. Let’s have a look.

Djuvech

Djuvech is a vegetable dish similar to Ratatouille which is very popular in Vojvodina, Serbia. It represents the harmony of bell peppers, tomatoes, garlic, onion, carrots, all cooked together and mixed with rice. You can add vegetables of your choice as well, but the traditional Djuvech is made according to the recipe below.

Pasta With Potato

Pasta with potato is another tasty, vegan-friendly dish. Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Add the previously peeled potatoes and let them cook until they are done, for about 10-15 minutes. Meanwhile, stew the onions in a pan and add a little bit of salt and cayenne pepper. When the potatoes are fully cooked, smash them and mix them with the cooked pasta and the stewed onions.
