Gardening can be so much fun whether you have access to a full-size garden or you do it on the balcony. You’ve probably read about the benefits eggshells have for plant soil and that you should use them to increase the calcium levels in the soil. That’s only partially true because eggshells take a long time to decompose so will have to wait a long time to see the results.

If you’re always looking for ways to repurpose things that most people consider trash, read on and learn about the reasons to hang on to the eggshells.

For Compost

Calcium from the eggshells will increase the quality of your compost pile. Just don’t expect them to fix a calcium deficiency in your plants quickly.

For Seeds

Eggshells are perfect little vessels for planting vegetable seeds. If you break the bottom of the shell for the roots to come out, you can transplant the starts into your garden without removing them from the shells.

Cleaning Scrub

Grind the shells and they will become a perfect tool for scrubbing gunk off your tools. They won’t scratch metal which makes them perfect for many surfaces.
