Connecting flights are a necessity when you’re embarking on a long international trip, but some people opt for them because they come with a lower price tag. They have their pros and cons, but here are three things you should keep in mind before making a decision to book one.

Connecting or Direct?

If you’re thinking of booking a connecting flight because it’s cheaper than the direct one, weigh all your options first. You’ll waste a lot of time and energy this way, so try to determine if the price is low enough that it’s really worth booking this flight.

Timing Your Flights

Layover time will play an important role in helping you determine which flight you should book. You should always have an hour for domestic and two hours for international flights between your connections so you could easily make your flight in time. You should also take potential delays and cancelations into the account, and avoid booking the last flight of the day to your final destination.

Transferring You Luggage

If you’re boarding a connecting flight, your baggage will have to be transferred in between. Baggage transfer will be done by airport staff if you have connecting flights with the same airline, but you’ll most likely have to pick up your bags yourself if that’s not the case.
