Have you ever been curious about how to make your own soap at home? Feeling confident in the products you’re using to clean your hands and body can be extremely rewarding. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get started.

Ingredients:

  • Base Oils: Coconut, olive, or palm oil.
  • Lye (Sodium Hydroxide)
  • Water
  • Essential Oils: For fragrance
  • Gloves, goggles, and a mask for handling lye.
  • Stainless steel or heat-resistant plastic containers, a thermometer, and a stick blender.

Instructions

  1. Weigh out the oils and heat them together in a stainless steel pot.
  2. In another heatproof container, add water. While wearing protective gear, slowly add the lye to the water, stirring gently. Allow the mixture to cool to around 100°F.
  3. Ensure both the oils and lye solution are around the same temperature (ideally between 95°F to 105°F).
  4. Slowly pour the lye solution into the oils while stirring continuously. Mix the solution until it resembles a thin pudding. Add essential oils. Mix thoroughly.
  5. Pour the soap mixture into molds. Silicone molds work best.
  6. Cover the molds with a towel or blanket to insulate and keep the soap warm. Allow the soap to cure for 4-6 weeks in a well-ventilated area, turning it occasionally for even drying. And, finally, enjoy!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and if you still haven’t started plotting a gift for your significant other, now’s the time. If you’re passionate about arts and crafts, you might be tempted about making a DIY Valentine’s Day gift, and here are three things you should keep in mind about them.

Personal Touch

Valentine’s Day is the perfect holiday for DIY because you’ll add a personal touch to your gift by making it on your own. You’ll have to put a lot of love, time, and effort into your DIY gift, showing your girlfriend or boyfriend that you really care.

Not a DIY Fan?

Even though DIY gifts can add a personal touch to your Valentine’s Day celebration, they’re not for everyone. If your significant other already expressed a desire for a different gift or struggle putting handmade presents to some good use, consider getting them something else.

Make It Practical

A lot of people think it’s impossible to give DIY presents to people who prefer practical gifts, but that’s not necessarily the case. From heart-shaped cookies to self-care boxes filled with scented candles, bath bombs, and other trinkets, there are many DIY gifts that will never go to waste.

We all have dreams and goals that we hope and wish to achieve one day. However, sometimes, life happens, and those dreams become just a distant memory. Fred Lamar had always dreamt of restoring his ’57 Chevy, but always seemed to run short of the funds or time to make it happen.
Thankfully, for Grandpa Fred though, he had his son and grandson who were excited to keep the car enthusiast’s tradition alive. But when his grandson, Cam, decided to take a whirl and decking out the Chevy, nobody would’ve expected things to turn out the way that it did.

Are you tired of binge-watching TV shows or playing video games all day? Why not keep your mind and hands busy with some arts and crafts? And when we say arts and crafts we don’t mean the basic winter crafts like paper snowflakes or snowflake clothespins—these DIY projects are intended for adults. Once you finish, you’ll want to proudly display them around your home all season long.

Wine Cork Vase

Chances are you have a ton of wine corks lying around your house from the winter holidays, so make them into a wine cork vase that you can display your flowers in for holidays to come. All you need is an old vase, glue, and corks for this project.

Snowflake Cross Stitch

Embroidering is one of the most relaxing pass times and you multi-task while you’re stitching. You can find tons of free snowflake cross stich patterns on the internet.

Glittery Mason Jar Snow Globes

You don’t have to take down all of your Christmas tress once the holiday is over. For these adorable mason jar snow globes all you need is a mason jar with a lid, glue, a glue gun, glitter, and a miniature Christmas tree.

Let it Snow Sign

Let’s be honest—who doesn’t dream of snow? This sign is perfect for your mantel or shelf and all you need is a wood slab, white acrylic paint, and a paint brush.

One of the hallmarks of the holiday season is ugly Christmas sweaters and while you can go out and buy one, it’s always much more fun to make your own. When you make your own, you can guarantee that no one else has one quite like yours. Get ready to win the ugliest sweater contests after making your DIY Christmas sweater.

Collect Materials

Start by going through your Christmas decorations bins and look for old ornaments, gift wrap, candy canes, lights, garland, and bows. Other materials you’ll need include a sweater, fabric paint, a hot glue gun, paintbrush, and scissors. While you don’t have to stick with a theme as the point of the sweater is to be tacky, it’s always nice to use red, green, and gold accents.

Add Decorations

Trim the garland and attach it to the collar, cuffs, and hem of the sweater with a hot glue gun. Then attach the other materials like the bows, gift wrap, ornaments, and unwrapped candy canes.

Paint Snowflakes

Create some snowflakes with a paintbrush and fabric paint. Add some glitter on top for a sparkly effect. If you don’t want to freehand, you can use a stencil or a snowflake rubber stamp to create the snowflakes.

Going out on a cool and dreary day can be tough, but there are still many fun things that you can do indoors. If you’re out of ideas on how to pass the time, try practicing one of these fun and cozy hobbies.

DIY Decorations

Why spend your money on Christmas decorations when you can make them on your own. Get creative in the next few weeks, and come up with a way to craft greetings cards, Christmas wreaths, and everything else in between.

Textile Hobbies

Textile-based hobbies experienced a huge surge in popularity this year, and fall is the perfect time to practice them. Knitting and crocheting make sense, now more than ever, because you’ll actually get to wear the clothes you make.

Puzzles

Puzzles can be time-consuming, but you’ll have a lot of time on your hands during cold and gloomy days. If you don’t feel like heading out, put on some good music and spend a day inside with your favorite puzzle.

Cookie Icing

If you prefer spending time in the kitchen, it’s time to fire up your oven. Baking banana bread is so passé, and you’ll have much more fun baking delicious cookies and decorating them with royal icing.

We all have some extra time on our hands in quarantine, and many people are using theirs to completely change their physical appearance. Hair is a good place to start, and here’s a couple of DIY trends that emerged in the last few weeks.

Pink Hair

Everyone from your next-door neighbor to Hollywood’s biggest stars iare dying their hair pink right now. This hair color is fun, low-maintenance, and easy to pull off, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that the whole world can’t get enough of it.

Buzzcuts

Dying their hair pink isn’t extreme enough for some people since this color washes away pretty quickly. They’re taking things one step further by chopping off their hair, and that’s why buzzcuts became the most popular quarantine haircut.

DIY Bangs

If you’ve ever wondered how you’d look like with bangs, but never dared to cut them off, now’s the time. At least that seems to be the logic behind this haircut trend, and some of our favorite stars – including Bella Hadid, Dua Lipa, and Rosalia – couldn’t resist it.

There’s nothing quite like relaxing on your own after a long day, with a soothing skin mask on your face, and Halle Berry seems to agree. Instead of relying on store-bought masks, she enjoys making her own, and she recently shared her secret recipe with the rest of the world.

Berry posted her go-to recipe on the Instagram page of her digital health and wellness community rē•spin. She also added that “this potion brightens, tightens, reduces fine lines and enhances that natural glow” in addition to being easy to make.

Her go-to recipe features a short list of ingredients that you probably have at home right now, including one pinch of turmeric powder, two tablespoons of brewed green tea, 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice, and 1/4 cup of plain yogurt.

The process of making it is incredibly easy, since you only have to mix the ingredients together and apply a generous coat for three minutes. That’s just the beginning, since Berry recommends applying the second coat for ten minutes, and rinsing and moisturizing your face afterward to give it a natural glow.
