Color Cloud: the Hair Trend You Need to Know About

The fashion week season always gives us dozens of new trends, but color cloud is one of the most eye-catching ones we’ve seen so far. This new craze caught everyone’s eye at Mary Katrantzou’s show in London and hair professional behind this distinctive hue revealed what went on behind the scenes.

Katrantzou latest collection was as colorful as they get, and it was inspired by four elements: earth, wind, fire, and water. The Greek fashion designer started searching for a hair stylist capable of coming up with something unique that perfectly reflects her vision, and found everything she was looking for in Josh Wood.

“We used our hands to blend the intense colors together, to create a ‘color cloud’ effect on the hair. Mary wanted me to create a pattern for the hair, more than a color, so we took fabrics from the collection and used nine Redken City Beats hair dye shades to recreate them,” explained Wood in an interview with Elle.

Cloud color wasn’t the only rainbow-inspired hair dye technique he came up with for this occasion. He used “horizon color” on girls with darker hair, but final result was equally stunning. Instead of dying natural hair, Wood and his team used extensions and clipped them behind natural hair, to make it seem like vibrant color is breaking through.
