How to Remove Color From Fabric

You can remove color from fabric by bleaching it. This process seems easy, but it is not as simple as you think. There are so many things to note before starting.

Be careful

Chlorine bleach is quite potent and has toxic fumes. It can stain carpets, and wood floors so use it outdoors. If you must stay indoors, use a well-ventilated spot. Wear an apron and rubber gloves to prevent skin contact.

Start with dying

Before starting, experiment with some bleach. Pour one part of bleach into 5 parts of water. This is necessary because bleach can irritate your skin, damage your clothing, and ruin subsequent clothes in the washer.

Let the clothing item remain submerged in the solution for 5 minutes and often check to see the progress.

Try bleaching with a spray

If you want to remove smaller stains or colors, you can opt for a spray. For denim, you can create a spattered look with a spray bottle and bleach, and it won’t damage the material.

Neutralize after dying

After dying, you should stop the chlorine’s chemical process. Start by rinsing the fabric with water. Professional grade bleach stoppers can come in handy, but may not be readily available. The best option is hydrogen peroxide. Place the clothing in 2 parts hydrogen peroxide and ten parts water for only ten minutes.
