Most of us had no idea what gluten was a few years ago and here we are today, trying to avoid it at all cost. But what is gluten exactly and is it really so harmful?

Turns out, only 1% of the world’s population suffers from celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder that’s triggered by gluten. But the word has spread that gluten is also bad for the rest of us. These are some common myths about it.

There’s More Gluten in Wheat Today

Even though it’s tempting to blame the giant companies for everything, including gluten levels in our wheat, this is not exactly true.

It’s Complicated to Avoid Gluten

Not really. Well, you’ll have to stay away from wheat bread, but many foods don’t have any gluten in them including meats, vegetables, fruits, fish, milk, nuts, herbs, oils, etc.

You Can Lose Weight by Eliminating Gluten

You’ll lose weight if you eat less calories than you need, and specific eating habits have nothing to do with that.

You’ll Have More Energy If You Eliminate Gluten

No studies have found that there’s a link between the gluten-free diet and having more energy. The best you can hope for is a placebo effect.

I’ve always been fascinated by Turkish culture and the Turkish cuisine since I absolutely adore it. I decided to make traditional Turkish bread called “simit” and honestly it has the best crunch on the outside and the best softness in the inside which makes a perfect combination for bread. There is nothing that comes close in taste to homemade bread. If you love experimenting with different flavors, you have to check out this raisin bread recipe. It is very simple and takes around 45 minutes.

Ingredients:

You will need the following ingredients to make the quick raisin bread: 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, 3/4 cup whole-wheat flour, 1 cup boiling water, 3/4 cup dark seedless raisins, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 egg, 1/4 cup canola oil, 7 packets sweetener, 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Make sure that you also have nonstick cooking spray on your kitchen counter.

Instructions:

Get a pan and cover it with cooking spray and some flour. Set the oven to preheat on 350°F. Boil the water and add the raisins to it. Let it sit for around half an hour. Grab a large bowl and add the baking soda, different types of flour, artificial sweetener, cinnamon, and salt. Get another smaller bowl and combine the oil, eggs, vanilla and the raisin mixture. Mix everything well. Now you should add the dry and liquid mixtures in one and stir until you get an even texture. Put the mixture in the pan and bake for 45 minutes. You can start eating the delicious raisin bread after ten minutes.

Eating healthy seems daunting when so many diets encourage you to stop eating bread. But it’s possible to enjoy this sandwich without feeling guilty! With Ezekiel bread, that is.

Ezekiel is a sprouted bread — it’s made from whole grains which have sprouted prior to being milled into flour. This gives the bread a higher nutritional value and doesn’t require added sugar. A loaf is made from a combination of cereal grains (wheat, millet, barley, and spelt) as well as legumes (soybeans and lentils).

Ezekiel bread contains 18 amino acids, increased digestibility and absorption of minerals, contains vitamins C and B, and is a great source of fiber and protein.

You can find a variety of Ezekiel bread flavors in your grocery store’s frozen aisle.
