Yoga has numerous benefits, both physical and mental, and straightening your core is one of them. These are some of the best and most effective poses to try if you want strong and sculpted abs.

Camel Pose

Opening your chest and pushing your shoulder blades together is obviously a great way to stretch the entire front part of your body. At the same time, this exercise is targeting your abs and strengthening your core.

Boat Pose

This pose is a bit more challenging than others, but the benefits it brings are unbelievable. While lifting your legs in the air, you’re engaging your abdomen and straightening your spine and neck at the same time.

Cobra Pose

Apart from being great for abs, cobra pose is good for straightening arms, chest and shoulders and for relieving back pain.

To make ends meet in 1999 as a full time yoga teacher, I taught 18 class a week and was flinging myself around New York City like a pinball on a scooter to get to classes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Talk about hustling. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My boyfriend at the time, who had a real job, paid for my yoga books so I could get certified with my second teacher training. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To continue my education with my teacher, I once flew to AZ with no place to stay and despite the workshop being sold out. Why? Because he said I could try to get in if there were no-shows and that I could practice with him on the breaks. I trusted someone would let me share their bed, and they did. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Every day and at every session, I'd show up to see if I could get in. I succeeded sometimes, and when I didn't, I'd sit outside the window with a notebook listening in. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I traveled all over the world assisting him for 14 years for no other compensation other than real time training and his mentorship. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Why am I sharing all this? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Because becoming a great teacher of yoga (or anything for that matter) doesn't happen overnight. Those who have grown up with Google and GPS can too often go for "the peak", forgetting the importance of the process (aka humility) — and then get frustrated when they don't get the job, or when students don't come to class, or when no one buys their stuff. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Slow down and take it all in, trudge along, build up your wisdom coffers, and then start making a real difference. 💃🏽 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How do you feel about instant gratification vs. enjoying the process and challenge of gradual, steady learning? What are your stories? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📸@rickphotostudio #slowdown #perseverance #study #takeyourtime #yoga #yogateachertips #yogateacher #mastery #yogateachermastery #amyippoliti @90monkeys #90monkeys #cobrapose #cobra #bhujangasana

Side Plank Pose

Take your traditional plank pose to the next level by lifting one hand in the air and balancing your weight on the other hand. Although it requires a bit of skill and a lot of focus, this exercise is extremely effective.

Imagine having an energetic start of the day, instead of the regular complaining that you want to stay in bed. Yoga has numerous benefits, one of which is a more energetic waking up with these simple morning yoga poses.

Triangle Pose

The triangle pose can be a bit tricky in the beginning, but once you do it a few times, you’ll notice how beneficial it is. Make sure that you are not leaning towards the floor with the torso, instead, it should be facing forward.

Child’s Pose

The child’s pose almost comes naturally. It doesn’t require a yoga pro. This is one of the best morning yoga poses because it reduces stress and activates muscles in a way you can’t even anticipate.

I cried at the end of yoga class yesterday. In savasana (on my side in the fetal position)… with tears coming down my face. . Out of pure frustration. Not with anyone or anything – but with myself, and my body. . I went to class feeling OK (a little sore, but certainly no intention of bursting into tears). But as I moved through class – every movement we we’re cued to do during class felt painful. Strained. Not right. . My body felt weak. . So when it came time to lay on our backs towards the end of class – I sure as hell couldn’t do a backbend, or an inversion, and I couldn’t even lay flat on my back without pain. . So.. there I was. Laying on my side. With tears just uncontrollably streaming down my face. . And the tears weren’t because of the pain – because I know it can always be worse. But for the frustration of not knowing what to do, or how to fix it, or feeling like I’ve tried everything I can think of. . Those of you who have been following me for a bit now know that I’ve been dealing with some back issues since the end of last Summer. And no matter what I do – more/less/nothing… it doesn’t seem to get much better. . But what it makes me even MORE sad about – is the people that deal with constant pain or chronic health issues on an even more long-term basis. Aside from the way that it can effect you physically – the way that it effects you mentally is just as taxing, if not more. . I felt like this was important to share because from the outside looking in you really truly never know what someone is going through, or how they are feeling (not speaking about myself but just in general). . If you’re out there and you deal with chronic pain or health issues I’m sending you SO much love and SO much light – you’re a true warrior. . Keep pushing. Keep going. You got this. Things WILL get better. . ✨ Pic by @jayg.photo of me in my favorite pose now more than ever Wearing all @aloyoga #beagoddess #aloyoga . #childspose #balasana #wyapc #yogateacher #instayoga #yogagram #yogapic #westchesteryoga #nycyoga

Dancer Pose

The dancer pose is another one perfect for the morning. This one opens up the chest area, bringing that extra boost of energy. It improves flexibility, balance and strength.

Chair Pose

The chair pose will keep your whole body going even from the early morning hours. You activate both the legs and core, so the blood will be going faster and your mind will be much more present in the moment.

We all know the healthy glow that regular yoga practitioners get. They seem to glow from within. Here’s how you can get your own glow on …

Start your day upside down

If you begin the day with an inversion such as a headstand or handstand, your facial skin will benefit from the blood flow.

Even a few minutes each morning can have both physical and mental benefits. Use a wall to balance you, or just lie with your legs up a wall for five minutes.

Swap coffee for tea

Instead of a cup of coffee that will amp up those stress levels, why not try a calming cup of yogi tea.

Combine the juice of half a lemon, a couple of slices of fresh ginger, a teaspoon of raw honey, a pinch of turmeric, and a pinch (or less) of cayenne with warm water for a restorative drink.

Make your own face mask

Take advantage of the healing properties of nature and make your own face scrub. Simply combine equal parts raw honey and mashed papaya for a delicious-smelling and highly effective face mask. Eat the rest of the papaya for improved digestion.
