Great Yoga Poses For the Perfect Abs

Yoga has numerous benefits, both physical and mental, and straightening your core is one of them. These are some of the best and most effective poses to try if you want strong and sculpted abs.

Camel Pose

Opening your chest and pushing your shoulder blades together is obviously a great way to stretch the entire front part of your body. At the same time, this exercise is targeting your abs and strengthening your core.

Boat Pose

This pose is a bit more challenging than others, but the benefits it brings are unbelievable. While lifting your legs in the air, you’re engaging your abdomen and straightening your spine and neck at the same time.

Cobra Pose

Apart from being great for abs, cobra pose is good for straightening arms, chest and shoulders and for relieving back pain.

To make ends meet in 1999 as a full time yoga teacher, I taught 18 class a week and was flinging myself around New York City like a pinball on a scooter to get to classes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Talk about hustling. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My boyfriend at the time, who had a real job, paid for my yoga books so I could get certified with my second teacher training. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To continue my education with my teacher, I once flew to AZ with no place to stay and despite the workshop being sold out. Why? Because he said I could try to get in if there were no-shows and that I could practice with him on the breaks. I trusted someone would let me share their bed, and they did. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Every day and at every session, I'd show up to see if I could get in. I succeeded sometimes, and when I didn't, I'd sit outside the window with a notebook listening in. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I traveled all over the world assisting him for 14 years for no other compensation other than real time training and his mentorship. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Why am I sharing all this? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Because becoming a great teacher of yoga (or anything for that matter) doesn't happen overnight. Those who have grown up with Google and GPS can too often go for "the peak", forgetting the importance of the process (aka humility) — and then get frustrated when they don't get the job, or when students don't come to class, or when no one buys their stuff. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Slow down and take it all in, trudge along, build up your wisdom coffers, and then start making a real difference. 💃🏽 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How do you feel about instant gratification vs. enjoying the process and challenge of gradual, steady learning? What are your stories? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📸@rickphotostudio #slowdown #perseverance #study #takeyourtime #yoga #yogateachertips #yogateacher #mastery #yogateachermastery #amyippoliti @90monkeys #90monkeys #cobrapose #cobra #bhujangasana

Side Plank Pose

Take your traditional plank pose to the next level by lifting one hand in the air and balancing your weight on the other hand. Although it requires a bit of skill and a lot of focus, this exercise is extremely effective.
