A flawless manicure is a small but significant joy. However, achieving that perfect, smudge-free finish when doing your nails at home can be challenging. That’s where Vaseline comes in. Here’s how incorporating this bathroom staple into your manicure routine can help you achieve the perfect manicure.

The Barrier Method

Vaseline works by creating a protective barrier on the skin around your nails. When applied correctly, it prevents nail polish from adhering to your skin, making any mistakes easy to wipe away without affecting your manicure.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Begin with clean, dry nails. Shape your nails and tend to your cuticles as you normally would.
  2. Using a cotton swab or a small brush, apply a thin layer of Vaseline around your nails, covering the cuticles and the skin directly adjacent to your nail edges. Be careful not to get Vaseline on the nail bed itself.
  3. Apply your nail polish as you normally would. Don’t worry if you accidentally get some polish on your skin—the Vaseline underneath will protect it.
  4. Once your nail polish is dry, use a cotton swab or tissue to wipe away the Vaseline and any polish mistakes along with it. The polish on your skin should come off easily, leaving you with a neat, smudge-free manicure.
