Working from Home Can Help Save the Planet, According to Research

A shorter work week could have many benefits for you and the planets, says research done by Autonomy, a European think tank.

Autonomy studied the connection between the number of hours people spend at work every week and greenhouse gas emissions and concluded that our current climate can’t afford the usual work hours.

“The actual sustainable work week, based on today’s levels of productivity and carbon intensity, would likely need to be well below 10 hours per week per person, even in relatively carbon-efficient economies,” the study states.

Since this is virtually impossible, it would be good if companies did what they could – switch to four-day work weeks or let their employees work from home whenever possible.

The employees would also benefit from this. If they could keep the productivity levels, they’d be left with more free time that would otherwise be spent on commute and lunch breaks and everyone would be happier.
