Winter conditions can take a toll on our bodies, so it’s worth spending time moisturizing, exfoliating and generally taking care of our hair and skin. One area that often gets neglected is the feet, but it’s so important to make sure that they are healthy and happy. Check out this advice on how to look after your feet during the wet and cold months, so that they stay healthy and are easier to prep for summer when the hot weather arrives.

Choose Natural Socks

When walking around in winter, your feet pass through many different elements – the cold, wet rain outside, the dry heat in the office, the chill walking home at night. Wearing socks made of synthetic materials, such as nylon and polyester, can restrict your feet and make it difficult for the skin to breathe. Opt for materials including wool, cotton, silk or bamboo, to cushion your feet and help the skin to stay healthy.

Use A Moisturizing Balm

Making sure that your feet and moisturized is essential in the winter months. Focus on the heel area, where the skin can crack if not conditioned properly. Let the moisturizer skin in for five to ten minutes before putting on socks. Before applying, you can soak your feet in a warm footbath to help prepare the skin for moisturizer.

Remove Dry Skin

The skin on our feet dries out faster than on any other area of the body. As well as regularly moisturizing, make sure that you are removing dry and dead skin using a pumice stone or foot file. Take care when using these tools to go gently, as you don’t want to damage the skin that is still healthy.

Following these tips can help your feet to stay warm, dry and healthy during the harsher winter weather.
