Oily skin can be difficult to keep shine-free during the summer months as the higher temperatures increase sebum production.

Even if you have normal to dry skin, you could experience a little extra shine in the summer. A little oil is necessary for healthy skin, but there are ways to minimize the shine.

1. Diet

While more research is still needed, dairy products have become known to cause an increase in sebum production, as much as 60%. Reducing dairy in your diet can help to prevent oily skin and your pores getting clogged, causing pimples.

2. Cleanser

Cleansing is vital for all skin types, but it is critical for oily skin. Cleansing your skin will help to remove excess sebum, sweat, dirt and dead skin cells, preventing breakouts.

Opt for a water-soluble cleanser over face wipes as they contain chemicals and don’t provide a proper cleanse.

3. Exfoliate

Routine exfoliation is great for your skin as it removes dead skin build up which clogs pores and leads to breakouts. Oily skin sheds dead skin slower so exfoliation is necessary to keep skin clear. Exfoliate two to three times per week with a gentle product to keep skin clear and reduce oil.
