Some things to Know About Harry and Meghan’s Wedding Cake Flavor

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed the flavor and the pastry chef of the upcoming cake they’re going to have for their wedding. The flavor is going to be a springy lemon elderflower and the lucky baker who will be in charge of it all is Clare Ptak (of London’s Violet Cakes).

So, what exactly is elderflower? What is this ingredient that the Prince and Meghan’s wedding guests will be eating, on May 19? Though elderflower may not be a traditional ingredient for the royal family, it definitely has interesting uses and flavors.

Elderflower abundant in the U.K. so you can often find it on the roadside.

Though the plant itself is a bit toxic, the white -creamy blossoms are totally edible, so are the elderberries that grow in the summer.

Some variations can be more harmful than others.

While raw, it may have a weird taste, but after cooking, the toxicity is gone and it becomes tasty.
