You Can Compost Even in a City!

If you live in a city, some people might tell you that composting is out of the question. And in truth, the idea of composting when you live in a small space can be daunting for some people. However, with there being so much food waste in the world, it is so important that everyone start doing their part and composting their food scraps. If you need some ideas on how to get started, this guide is for you.

Check Your Municipality

In the US, there are almost 100 cities and communities that have a municipal food waste program. You might have to contact your local government to see how to get a special bin, but if that’s the case, it’s well worth it!

Worm Bins

If you want to start a small herb garden or have access to outdoor space in your city, having a worm bin inside your home is a great option. They are small so they can fit in any size apartment, and they don’t smell!

Ask the Community

A lot of times neighbors or community gardens will offer people the ability to drop off compost items in tumbler or compost piles, so try to ask around or look online to see if there are any options available near you! Also, if you don’t want to carry your compost items there all the time, consider freezing your scraps so there’s no smell and easier transport.
