We wouldn’t be wrong if we said that habits basically rule our lives. Bad habits can ruin your health and wellbeing while good habits can improve your life more than you can imagine. It sounds so simple, but good habits and structure are often all you need to be healthier, more productive, and have better relationships.

Sleeping Schedule

Try to go to sleep and wake up at approximately the same time every day and your body will soon notice the changes. You will be well-rested and energized. Try to wake up earlier than necessary so you have enough time to get ready for your day.

Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking plenty of water is crucial if you want your body to function well. Water helps you digest food, makes your skin looks radiant and basically keeps your whole body running smoothly.

Meal Plan

Planning what you will eat in a week may sound like additional work, but it will actually free up a lot of your time. Once you know what you’ll eat Monday to Friday, you can shop for the ingredients and prepare things that can be prepared in advance so you have healthy meals available at all times.

Making black beans from dried beans has always been a challenge. For some reason, they are just much harder than all the other beans to make! Luckily, this recipe is fool proof, doesn’t require any soaking, and is ready in less than 2 hours! If you’re ready to save money, make beans even healthier and yummier, try this recipe today.

Recipe:

  1. Start by pouring however many beans you want to make into a large pot. 1 cup of dried beans will yield about 3-4 cups of cooked beans.
  2. Then, put into the pot half an onion peeled, 4-5 large cloves of garlic, and 1 bay leaf.
  3. Cover the beans with about 3 inches of liquids. The best way to measure is by using your fingers.
  4. The liquid for the beans should be approximately 1 part stock or broth to 2 parts water.
  5. Then, put the lid on the pot, bring it to a boil on high heat, and then take off the cover and bring it down to a simmer.
  6. Simmer the beans for the next 1 hour-1 hour 45 minutes until they are soft. They might need more liquid during that time, and if so, add in a bit at a time.
  7. When they’re soft, drain any extra water, season with salt, cumin, and chili powder, and cook for another few minutes and then enjoy!

Leading a healthy lifestyle can be really hard sometimes, as we’re all trying to follow the rules and avoid some bad habits on a daily basis. You’ll be happy to hear that some of these habits that we thought were unhealthy actually aren’t that bad and some of them can even be good for us. Here are four things you can stop worrying about.

Stressing out

A healthy dose of stress is nothing to worry about and scientist claim that stress can motivate some people to take risks and be more productive.

Having a Snack

Snacking between meals is totally acceptable as long as you’re not eating unhealthy food. We all know that having five small meals every day can be great for your metabolism, so go ahead and enjoy a healthy snack.

Sleeping in on weekends

Experts are debating whether we can make up for too little sleep during the week or not. Even if can’t, sleeping in on weekends cannot do us any harm, right?

Skipping Workout

Even the biggest fitness enthusiasts need to slow down and have a day for rest. Working out every day can be bad for the muscles and lead to injuries, so don’t feel bad when you skip your class once in a while.

Having a great workout sometimes isn’t enough to reach your fitness goals – especially if you don’t stay committed to your progress once it’s over. If you’re cultivating one of these post-workout habits, it’s time to change your ways.

No Rehydration

It’s essential to drink some water after your workout, even if you don’t feel extremely thirsty. It’s important to stay hydrated, but avoid soda and energy drinks since they’re not such a great substitute and often happen to be filled with sugar.

Wrong Snacks

We all feel pretty hungry after burning tons of calories during our workout, but that’s not a reason to eat everything in sight. It’s recommended to eat something in the first 30 minutes after the gym, but try to go for foods that contain protein, little fat, and some healthy carbs.

Lazy Day

Your hard work at the gym is going to waste if you spend the rest of your day doing nothing. Instead of binge-watching Netflix all day long, put aside some time to take a walk at a local park or clean around the house.

Whether you’re someone who gets their nails done on a weekly basis or someone who hasn’t painted their nails in years, what your nails look like can actually tell a lot about your overall health. While this is a little unsettling, it also can be helpful as your body is showing you what it is lacking or how it needs to be cared for, which is pretty amazing.

Brittle Nails

Nails that break easily and are brittle and uneven is a telltale sign that you probably have a vitamin deficiency. The most common vitamin deficiencies associated with brittle nails are A, B, and C, so it’s really easy to remember! If you see your nails are brittle, all you have to do is incorporated foods with these vitamins into your diet more.

Slow Growing Nails

If you find that your nails take a really long time to grow back after you cut them or after they break, that can be a sign that you have a calcium deficiency. Calcium is the mineral that helps our bones stay strong, but this also applies to nails and even your hair. If you’re vegan or don’t eat a lot of dairy products, make sure you’re consuming a lot of dark leafy greens because they are full of calcium.

A food processor is a kitchen tool that everyone should have for so many reasons. Not only does it make cooking and baking easier it can also motivate you to eat healthier. A food processor can make so many different items that you would normally buy at the store, which will definitely cost you more money. Here a few ways you can use your food processor to cook healthier but still save money.

Burgers

Veggie burgers are normally really expensive at the store when they’re so easy to make! All you have to do is throw your plant-based protein of choice into the food processor with an egg, breadcrumbs, and any veggies and spices you want to go in them and you’ve got your mix! Shape them into patties and dinner is just around the corner.

Hummus

Hummus is everyone’s favorite Middle Eastern dip, and you can make it in your food processor with just garlic, lemon juice, chickpeas, and tahini. Make a big batch at the beginning of the week and snack on it for a healthy bite.

Cauliflower Replacements

Cauliflower is great to use instead of rice, like a pizza dough, and more! With the food processor, all you need to do is put the florets in, give it a whirl, and you have an awesome healthy alternative.

Whether you have a demanding job or just a lot of activities or responsibilities on your plate, a lot of people spend their days rushing around, unable to stop and take a breath. If you are fed up of this lifestyle and want to try living more slowly, try practicing these habits and see if it makes a difference.

Meals

Meals are often a time where we zoom through life. Sometimes we eat while we work, or sometimes we forget to eat altogether. To combat this unhealthy and unsatisfying way to live, try to start setting aside time for you to eat and only eat. Whether that’s 10 minutes or half an hour, dedicating time to eating each of your meals is really important.

Breathing

Slowing your breathing will make you feel more present and calm in your day-to-day life. Set reminders on your phone a couple of times a day to stop, take even 1 minute to just sit there and breath deeply.

Technology

Technology is something that does not promote a healthy, slow-paced lifestyle. Everything is fast and at your fingertips, so try to minimize the times where you’re on your phone and instead, take that time to do a fun hobby or to connect with loved ones.
