Going out on a cool and dreary day can be tough, but there are still many fun things that you can do indoors. If you’re out of ideas on how to pass the time, try practicing one of these fun and cozy hobbies.

DIY Decorations

Why spend your money on Christmas decorations when you can make them on your own. Get creative in the next few weeks, and come up with a way to craft greetings cards, Christmas wreaths, and everything else in between.

Textile Hobbies

Textile-based hobbies experienced a huge surge in popularity this year, and fall is the perfect time to practice them. Knitting and crocheting make sense, now more than ever, because you’ll actually get to wear the clothes you make.

Puzzles

Puzzles can be time-consuming, but you’ll have a lot of time on your hands during cold and gloomy days. If you don’t feel like heading out, put on some good music and spend a day inside with your favorite puzzle.

Cookie Icing

If you prefer spending time in the kitchen, it’s time to fire up your oven. Baking banana bread is so passé, and you’ll have much more fun baking delicious cookies and decorating them with royal icing.

Coconut oil has many health and beauty benefits and most of us have already tried using it for cooking, as a hair mask, or as a face moisturizer. What you probably didn’t know is that you can use this amazing oil to make your own lip balm at home.

We know that the idea of making DIY lip balm sounds a bit unnecessary and complicated, but it’s actually not. First, it’s not complicated if you follow the recipe. But most importantly, you’ll know exactly what kind of ingredients you’re using to make your lip balm, which is great. This lip balm will help your lips stay hydrated and shiny all day long and it also smells incredible.

Huda Beauty shared this interesting recipe on their website, commenting that this “lip balm leaves your lips feeling super soft and nourished, plus it has a sweet rose tint.” That’s more than enough reasons to give this DIY lip balm a chance.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp of virgin coconut oil
  • 2 tsp of Argan oil
  • 2 tsp of Olive oil
  • Colored berry lipstick

Instructions:

  1. In a pan on a low heat, melt together the coconut oil with about 1 cm of lipstick and add it into the pan.
  2. Add in the oils and stir well.
  3. Leave it on the heat for two to three minutes and then pour it into a small dish or an old lip balm tin.
  4. Leave it in the fridge to set for a few hours.

I tried something new! I made some lip balm at home! It’s pretty cheap, very natural, and super easy. So much so that I can’t believe I didn’t try it sooner. 😍😍⁣ ⁣ What’s great is that you can easily infuse your homemade lip balm with essential oils. The Young Living vitality line is perfect for this purpose because it’s labeled safe for ingestion by the FDA. 💧⁣ ⁣ I used Tangerine Vitality for this batch. 🍊 What oil/flavor would you infuse? ⁣ ⁣ I’ve seen recipes that use lemon, lime, lavender, basil, and others. Most of the time you’ll find citrus and herbal flavors are best suited for lip balms. 🍋🌱⁣ ⁣ The recipe I used makes a soft, smooth lip balm with a hint of tangerine flavor. It yields about 8 of these plastic tubes of lip balm and it’s super easy. Just follow these steps:⁣ ⁣ 1) Get your empty lip balm tubes ready. Line them up, take off the caps, and make sure they’re clean. ✨⁣ ⁣ 2) Melt your coconut wax by popping it in the microwave for like 30 seconds. Then add 3 Tablespoons of coconut oil to a small mason jar. Add a tablespoon of beeswax pellets to the mason jar, too. 🥄⁣ ⁣ 3) Add some water to a saucepan. Set the mason jar in the saucepan to make a double boiler. Melt the beeswax in the coconut oil and remove it from the heat. 🔥⁣ ⁣ 4) When the pellets are melted, add 20 drops of your choice of essential oil. Mix it in completely. 🍊⁣ ⁣ 5) Use a pipette to transfer the mixture from the jar to the lip balm containers. Fill them all the way to the top because they’ll shrink a bit as they cool off. ❄⁣ ⁣ 6) Give them a few hours to cool off and you’ve got yourself a fresh batch of natural lip balm! 👏⁣ ⁣ This fresh batch is going to be part of the swag bags for @rocwomin’s women’s retreat. I’m so excited to share them!

Who knew that the secret for clear, glowing skin may be sitting right in front of you in your kitchen? Forget spending time and money at your local spa, you can give yourself a luxury facial in the comfort of your own home. Here are a few DIY face masks you have to try.

Bananas

This potassium-rich fruit works wonders on your skin, leaving it feeling softer and moisturized. Mash a ripe banana and let it sit on your face for 10 minutes before washing. Life-changing!

View this post on Instagram

Bananas are one of the most nutritional and healing fruits readily available today. I have had over the years a love hate relationship with them, not too, hard or soft – I'm super fussing about what state of ripeness I eat a banana.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Who else is like that?? or am I the only weird bananaphobe out there???⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ They are 76% water and are packed with vitamins such as vitamins C and B6 and minerals such as potassium, copper, and manganese. This high water/nutrient ratio makes them a great electrolyte food perfect for busy moms, workout enthusiasts, and people on the go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Bananas are also an excellent “brain food” great for heavy thinkers and are known to help build strong muscles as well as strengthen the nervous system. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @medicalmedium says that bananas contain high levels of fructooligosaccharides (FOS) which along with insulin helps to promote nutrient absorption and assimilation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Bananas support the natural acidophilus bacteria in the bowel which helps promote a healthy and functional digestive tract as well as keep the immune system healthy and strong. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Bananas can prevent ulcers by strengthening the surface cells of the stomach lining which helps to create a thicker barrier against digestive acid and pepsin-the two main causes of ulcers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Bananas are also an excellent food for athletes as they can help replenish energy and revitalize the body instantly. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #bananas #planoly #healthyfromtheinsideout #healthcoach #healer #natureatitsbest #holistichealing #foodismedicine #thehealingkiwi #coach #gravesdisease #autoimmune #healingfromtheinsideout #powerofplants #plantpower #medicalmedium

Oatmeal

You may have noticed that oatmeal is a common ingredient in face washes and moisturizers. That’s because oatmeal contains acne-fighting agents and can quickly soothe irritated skin. A simple mix of warm water and oatmeal on your face for 15 minutes can work wonders.

Avocado

Not only for toast and guac! Avocado is extremely moisturizing and can quickly fix dry, flaky skin. Mash a ripe avocado with a fork and apply it to dry skin for 15 minutes. Wash it off with warm water and prepare to be amazed.

Eggs

Though you may have never dreamed of smearing eggs all over your face, they actually have powerful skin-tightening effects. Beat a single egg white and apply it to the face for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water and moisturize as usual.

Bath bombs are used for adding beautiful scents, bubbles or colors to bathwater and in case you haven’t tried them yet, you should definitely consider it. Bath bombs take bathing to a whole new level and once you try them, it’s hard to stop.

The good news is that you can make your own bath bombs at home and that’s a totally different experience because then you can add your favorite essential oils, colors, and scents. Abbey from The Daily Greens shared this recipe for DIY bath bombs and we can’t wait to try it.

View this post on Instagram

Homemade Bath Bombs! I’ve been making these as gifts for a while but now I have a bath I can finally enjoy them for myself. And let me tell you, soaking in the tub with one of these bad boys and a glass of red is such a cheap but satisfying form of self care 🧖🏽‍♀️🥀 Some of the ingredients you’ll already have in the kitchen like olive oil, bi carb soda and maybe even water 💦 A few of the others might be less common. If you’re lucky, the bulk store might sell citric acid, arrowroot powder and epsom salts plastic free. Otherwise these can all be found at the supermarket. Yes they’ll be packaged but if you look at the bigger picture, a little bit of packaging now might save you a lot more packaging down the road. When you get into making low waste and low tox products from scratch, you’ll start to notice a few staple ingredients popping up in lots of different DIY recipes across beauty and skincare products, toiletries, household cleaners etc. For example… . Arrowroot powder – dry shampoo, deodorant, body balm, makeup, thickening sauces . Citric Acid – toilet fizzies or toilet bowl cleaner, dishwasher tablets or powder detergent, canning, cheese making . Epsom Salts – bath soak, plant fertiliser, household cleaner (use to scrub pots, pans, tiles and other surfaces) . Follow the link in my bio for the full recipe 🐳🛁 . . . . . #diybathbombs #homemadebathbombs #tubtime #makeyourown #makesmthng #homemade #diy #greenbeauty #lowtox #lowimpact #plasticfree #wastefree

A post shared by Abbey (@thedailygreens.co) on

Ingredients

  1. 1 Cup Bi-Carb Soda
  2. 1/2 Cup Citric Acid
  3. 1/2 Cup Epsom Salts
  4. 1/2 Cup Arrowroot Powder
  5. 3 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil (or sub for another carrier oil like sweet almond or jojoba)
  6. Water
  7. 10-15 Drops Essential Oils (whichever one you like)
  8. Sprinkling of Dried Flowers

Instructions

  • Combine all dry ingredients in one bowl.
  • Combine oil, water, and essential oils in a separate bowl or jug.
  • Slowly pour the liquid mixture into the dry mixture, whisking it through as you go. If it starts to fizz, slow down!
  • Add a little more water to achieve a wet sand-like texture. If you squeeze it in your hand it should hold its shape.
  • Work quite quickly pressing the mixture into the molds.  The foam will want to expand so pack it in tight before trapping it in with the lid.
  • Leave them to dry overnight/12 hours – the longer the better.
  • Gently remove the balls (or whatever shape you’ve created) out of the molds and store them.

Sewing your own clothes, making DIY birthday presents, painting wall decorations, crafting home-decor crafts – the possibilities are endless. These crafts are not only great to do on a rainy day, but they also make great hobbies. If you’re looking for some new craft inspiration, these will be the biggest trends of 2020.

Art Therapy Activities

Who doesn’t love adult coloring books? They’re so much fun while being therapeutic. Now, paint-by-numbers have become super trendy and we’re not just talking about those basic ones you did in elementary school. The adult versions are complex enough to hang on your wall after you finish. You can even download coloring pages online.

Stained Glass Crafts

Add some color to any room with stained glass crafts. These crafts are even available in mosaic kits which have everything you need to complete your project. When you’re done, you can give these as a gift.

Eco-Friendly Crafts

It seems like everything these days is becoming more sustainable and crafts is no exception. Try upcycling items from the thrift stores, recycling materials, and using natural dyes.

Pine cones are great for decorating and bringing that romantic rustic vibe into your home in winter. Not only that – you can use your favorite essential oils to make scented pine cones that will freshen up your home with a subtle smell.

This DIY project is very easy, fun, and inexpensive if you don’t mind foraging for a few pine cones in your back yard.

You’ll need:

  • Pine cones
  • Cookie sheet
  • Essential oil
  • Gallon-sized plastic zip-top bag

Instructions

  1. Find pinecones outside and give them a rinse if they’re dirty.
  2. Put the pinecones on a foil-lined baking sheet and put them in the 200° oven for 30 minutes to kill off any germs or bacteria. Let them cool.
  3. Put them in a ziplock bag and add essential oil drop by drop. How many drops you add depends on your preference.
  4. Let them sit in the bag at least for a day – the longer they sit, the more aroma they have!
  5. Put them in a bowl and decorate.

Another way to do this is to fill a spray bottle with water and add essential oil. Once you spray the cones, place them in the bag and leave them to sit.

Ingredients

  1. 1 Cup Bi-Carb Soda
  2. 1/2 Cup Citric Acid
  3. 1/2 Cup Epsom Salts
  4. 1/2 Cup Arrowroot Powder
  5. 3 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil (or sub for another carrier oil like sweet almond or jojoba)
  6. Water
  7. 10-15 Drops Essential Oils (whichever one you like)

Tinted Lip Balm

Melt 1 tsp of beeswax on low heat, add 3 tsp coconut or olive oil, and a small amount of your favorite lipstick to make a tinted lip balm in the color you already love!
