Poor air quality and dry air can cause many health and beauty problems and this situation becomes even more problematic during winter when we turn on the heat in our homes. Humidifiers are a great way to solve this problem because they emit moisture back into the air and can humidify any room in no time. Check out a few good reasons why you should have at least one humidifier in your home.

Reduce Germs

The reason why the flu and cold spread faster during winter is that germs and bacteria thrive in dry air. Using a humidifier to moisturize the air in your home is an easy and smart way to prevent cold.

Healthy Houseplants

You’re not the only one who will benefit from moist air—your houseplants will be happy as well. Experienced gardeners know that many houseplants such as orchids or anthuriums need humid air in order to thrive and be healthy.

Soothe Dry Skin

Having problems with dry skin during winter? A humidifier can help you combat this problem because moist air soothes dry skin and makes it softer over time.

Save Money on Heat

You probably know that most air makes any room feel warmer. Use this to your advantage by adding moisture into the air in order to save a little money on your energy bill.

The beginning of a new year is always the best time to make some changes in our lives, to get rid of bad habits, and to start the year with a clean slate. Before you make any drastic changes, we suggest you start this year by deep cleaning and organizing your home. This will make you feel better and ready to fight any other battle!

Refrigerator

Most people forget to clean their refrigerator on a regular basis and this is quite important in order to prevent the spread of bacteria. Empty your fridge and make sure to properly clean all shelves and drawers. You can place an open box of baking soda or coffee grounds at the end – this will absorb any odor left in the fridge.

Those Sneaky Areas

Fan blades, blinds, dust ruffle, lightbulbs, air vents – these are all hidden parts of the apartment that we usually forget to clean. That’s why they’re probably very dusty at this point, so make sure to clean and sanitize these areas.

You File Cabinet

Organizing your file cabinets is pretty time-consuming, which is why we often skip this part of cleaning. Make sure you start this year ready by going through your files and organizing them – toss any document and paper that you don’t need anymore and sort-out the rest.

In her book titled 'The Art of Beauty' (1878), British author, illustrator and painter, Mary Haweis presents ‘feeling’ (the expression of a maker’s unique emotions and values) and thought (production with intentionality and care) as the essential ingredients of good design. She argues that even when there is an apparent lack of skill, deficiencies can be compensated for by the thoughtfulness in concept of an artefact:⠀ ⠀ “There are innumerable instances we might quote of early work, in which ignorance and mediocre ability go hand in hand with an enthusiasm and thoroughness of conception worthy of any age, which ennobles and redeems the whole production…We feel that the [makers] had all that makes an artist – feeling and enthusiasm”⠀ ⠀ Haweis is arguing for the idea that when we infuse what we do with deep care and intention and when our creative process is driven by the desire to express something personal to us, even when we may not have all the skills of the expert, this thought and care will shine through in a way that has value that can be perceived by all. ⠀ ⠀ This same idea applies so readily to the creation of a home: thought, care and enthusiasm, seem to me to be far more vital ingredients than money or expertise when it comes to the making of warm and soulful spaces.⠀ ⠀ #ingredientsldn⠀ ⠀ Image shows our Hand Dyed Velvet Jewel Cushion Covers in Dappled Sage and Dappled Olive and Belgian Linen Blanket Throw in Ecru (used as a sofa cover).⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #neutraldecor #naturaldecor #naturalhomedecor⠀ #realliving #howyouhome #inmydomaine⠀ #timelessdesign #atmine #interiorwarrior⠀ #interiordecorator #interiorstyle #interiorideas #homegoals #interiormilk #myhousebeautiful #theworldofinteriors #fineinteriors #adstyle

Neutral tones

Neutral and warm colors such as beige, ivory, taupe, black and gray have been dominating in 2019 and this trend will continue this year as well. A neutral color palette will give your home a sophisticated touch and make it feel brighter even on cloudy days.

Vintage Items

Vintage home decor has been trending in 2019 and this won’t change in 2020. Only a few rustic and old items can give your home that irresistible vintage vibe we absolutely adore.

Rich texture and pattern

If you’re opting for a neutral color palette, the best way to create contrast is to decorate with rich textures and patterns. This means a lot of throw pillows, colorful rugs and knitted blankets that’ll give your home a cozy note.

Now that the holiday season is over it doesn’t mean you should stop inviting people over to your house. We get it, hosting people is stressful, but it’s part of maintaining relationships, so it has to be done at some point. Your house doesn’t have to be spotless to have guests over and your friends and family will love you even if your house is a bit messy.

Here are the five areas of your house to pay attention to when cleaning it.

Bathroom Surfaces

We bet you notice when public bathrooms are filthy, but in your home, you may not pick up on the mess because you’re used to it. Make sure to tuck away any makeup products or toiletries from the counter and wipe down your counter, faucets, and toilets.

Kitchen Counters

Guests love gathering in the kitchen and for good reason, that’s where the food comes from. Prior to your guests coming clear your sink and countertops. Any dirty dishes should be put away in your dishwasher – don’t worry we won’t tell anyone.

Sofa

On a day-to-day basis, your sofa gets a lot of use. After all, it’s where your children, husband, and pet like to unwind. Just vacuum the couch, fluff the pillows, and fold the blankets before your guests arrive.

Drinking Glasses

What’s more disgusting than finding someone else’s lipstick on your glass? Rinse off your glasses and dry them right away to make them super sparkly.

Entryway

Your guest’s first impression of your home is when they enter your entryway. Put any shoes, jackets, or bags away and do a quick vacuum and sweep.

City life may be exciting, but most of us face the lack of space that prevents us from fully enjoying our apartments. If your kitchen is smaller than you’d like it to be, here’s how to get the most out of it.

Be Creative with Lighting

The last thing you need in your small kitchen is a hanging chandelier, so be creative with lighting solutions. Led strips can provide you light where you most need it and they stay invisible when not in use.

Built-in Chopping Board

This is probably our favorite idea we recently saw and we had to share it with you. How amazing is it to have your chopping board built in the sink and keep your working area clean?

Hang Everything

Declutter kitchen cabinets by hanging everything that can be hung, from pots and pans to cups and mugs.

Cleaning your house for only a few minutes every day can save you a lot of hard work and trouble in the long run. These are the places you should declutter every day.

Handbag

Most women know how hard it can be to find the thing you’re looking for in your handbag. Even though you’re sure you need all those things in your bag, we bet that’s not entirely true! Toss out the things you don’t need anymore, organize the ones that are left and your life will be a lot easier.

Clothes

Throwing clothes on a chair or creating a pile on your bed will eventually lead to that stressful moment we all hate. Find a few minutes every day to organize your clothes, because that’s a lot easier than having to spend an entire day cleaning a mountain of clothes.

Office Desk

One of the rules for a successful business day is to have a comfortable and enjoyable workspace. Make sure to clean your office desk at the end of the day and dispose of any unnecessary things, so you can come to a clean desk the next morning.

To feel good at home means to feel good about your life, most of the time. Our homes are typically an extension of ourselves. They both reflect and shape our reality, affecting our mood, productivity, and the outlook on life. To feel happier and more productive at home, do these things.

Make Your Bed

There are more benefits to making your bed in the morning than you think. By doing it, you won’t just instantly have tidier space, but also the feeling of accomplishment that will push you throughout the day.

Tidy Up Regularly

You probably need around three minutes per room to put everything back where it belongs, so make sure you do this every night and you’ll feel much better in the morning.

Memories on Display

In the last few years, the culture of minimalism has thought us to throw out everything that’s not absolutely necessary from our homes, but some sentimental memories set around your home can lift your spirit when you need it the most.

Start Liking the Chores

You may hate doing dishes, but the sad truth is that you need to do them anyway. Find a way to love this activity and you’ll be much happier day after day.
