I’ve been with the practice for over 2 decades. (Yes you read that right 😏 21 years to be exact) The beauty of yoga practice is that it can shift to meet your current needs. ⁣ ⁣ When I first began, it was a way for me to do low-impact exercise. I had just recovered from 2 separate ACL surgeries on the same knee. I loved yoga instantly. Most appealing was how it adapts to each person. No one in class was judging me or talking about what I could or couldn’t do. We were all just practicing together. ⁣ ⁣ When things were dark, yoga was there to clear my mind and keep me in the present moment. December has truly been a whirlwind for my family and I. I did my best to stay on track and stick to my rituals however I found that what I did not stick to was my breath work and meditations. Just a month with out this practice and I feel more anxiety then usual, my sleep has been compromised and I don’t feel quite as focused. ^ ^ The hardest part is starting again, getting back up on that horse and continuing to do the things that we know make us feel better. Even though I really didn’t feel like meditating today I made myself do it and OMG I feel so much more grounded, connected, calm and positive. ^ ^ For me I find alternate nostril breathing to be a wonderful transition into breath work and meditation. Just 3-5 minutes a day can greatly improve your energy, mood, cognitive function and so much more. So how do we do alternate nostril breathing?… ^ ^ •find a comfortable space to sit down. Somewhere you feel calm and still. Sit with legs crossed, make sure your spine is long and you sit up tall •reach your right hand towards your nose and rest your left hand gently in your lap or on your knee •with your right hand, make a Shaka 🤙🏼 sign. •exhale fully then use your right thumb to close your right nostril •inhale through your left nostril and then close the left nostril with your pinky •open the right nostril and exhale through that side •inhale through the right nostril and then close that nostril •open the left nostril and exhale through the left side •this completes one cycle. You may do this for up to 5 minutes. •try and complete this exercise with an exhale on the left side 🙏🏻 sometimes I like to shake out my arms and hands and complete one big inhale lifting my arms up and then exhale loudly and drop my arms down to release any pent up energy I might have. ^ ^ There are many ways to meditate for me I find this one easy to follow and easy to stick to. ^ ^ What about you? Cookies . 3/4 cup vegan margarine 1/2 cup caster sugar 1 orange, zest only 1 tsp vanilla extract 1.5 cup plain flour 3/4 cup ground almonds pinch sea salt 3 tbsp icing sugar . Cranberry orange chia jam . 300g Cooks’ Ingredients Cranberries 1/2 cup water 2 oranges 1 tbsp chia seeds 2 cinnamon sticks or 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 tbsp sugar . Make chia jam by adding cranberries and water to a small pan over a medium heat. Zest and juice oranges and add to the pan with chia seeds, cinnamon sticks and sugar. Simmer for 15-20 mins until thick and jammy. Prepare cookie dough by beating butter, sugar, orange zest and vanilla until light and fluffy. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, ground almonds and salt. Add in the butter mixture and mix until combined to form a dough. Divide dough in half, patting each half into a disc. Wrap and chill for an hour in the fridge. Preheat oven to 180•c and line two baking sheets. On a floured surface, roll one disc of dough out to 5 mm. Using a cutter, cut out cookies. Transfer to baking sheet. Make the same amount of cookies using the other disc of dough and cut out heart shapes. Transfer to baking sheet. Bake for 10 mins and allow to cool fully on a rack. I’ve been with the practice for over 2 decades. December has truly been a whirlwind for my family and I. I did my best to stay on track and stick to my rituals however I found that what I did not stick to was my breath work and meditations. Just a month with out this practice and I feel more anxiety then usual, my sleep has been compromised and I don’t feel quite as focused. ^ ^ The hardest part is starting again, getting back up on that horse and continuing to do the things that we know make us feel better. Even though I really didn’t feel like meditating today I made myself do it and OMG I feel so much more grounded, connected, calm and positive. ^ ^ For me I find alternate nostril breathing to be a wonderful transition into breath work and meditation. Just 3-5 minutes a day can greatly improve your energy, mood, cognitive function and so much more. So how do we do alternate nostril breathing?… ^ ^ •find a comfortable space to sit down. Somewhere you feel calm and still. Sit with legs crossed, make sure your spine is long and you sit up tall •reach your right hand towards your nose and rest your left hand gently in your lap or on your knee •with your right hand, make a Shaka 🤙🏼 sign. •exhale fully then use your right thumb to close your right nostril •inhale through your left nostril and then close the left nostril with your pinky •open the right nostril and exhale through that side •inhale through the right nostril and then close that nostril •open the left nostril and exhale through the left side •this completes one cycle. You may do this for up to 5 minutes. •try and complete this exercise with an exhale on the left side 🙏🏻 sometimes I like to shake out my arms and hands and complete one big inhale lifting my arms up and then exhale loudly and drop my arms down to release any pent up energy I might have. ^ ^ There are many ways to meditate for me I find this one easy to follow and easy to stick to. ^ ^ What about you? Cookies . 3/4 cup vegan margarine 1/2 cup caster sugar 1 orange, zest only 1 tsp vanilla extract 1.5 cup plain flour 3/4 cup ground almonds pinch sea salt 3 tbsp icing sugar . Cranberry orange chia jam . 300g Cooks’ Ingredients Cranberries 1/2 cup water 2 oranges 1 tbsp chia seeds 2 cinnamon sticks or 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 tbsp sugar . Make chia jam by adding cranberries and water to a small pan over a medium heat. Zest and juice oranges and add to the pan with chia seeds, cinnamon sticks and sugar. Simmer for 15-20 mins until thick and jammy. Prepare cookie dough by beating butter, sugar, orange zest and vanilla until light and fluffy. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, ground almonds and salt. Add in the butter mixture and mix until combined to form a dough. Divide dough in half, patting each half into a disc. Wrap and chill for an hour in the fridge. Preheat oven to 180•c and line two baking sheets. On a floured surface, roll one disc of dough out to 5 mm. Using a cutter, cut out cookies. Transfer to baking sheet. Make the same amount of cookies using the other disc of dough and cut out heart shapes. Transfer to baking sheet. Bake for 10 mins and allow to cool fully on a rack.
