Following an intense workout, the last thing on your mind is usually eating. You’re not alone as decreased appetite after exercising is common and most workouts cause suppressed hunger. Why does this happen and should you eat after your workout?

There are many reasons why you don’t feel hungry after an intense workout including high body temperature and hormones. While exercising, your body temperature increases and to avoid overheating, your body uses its energy on cooling, occupying the receptors that signal hunger.

In addition, some high-impact exercises like running cause a lot of movement in your stomach which can lead to you feeling nauseous and having less of a desire to eat. While you’re exercising, your blood volume and flow are diverted from the gut to bring more oxygen to your muscles, slowing digestion, making you feel full.

Boat Pose

Boat pose is one of the basic yoga exercises that’s easy to do while sitting on your couch and watching TV. Just lift your feet off the ground, bend your knees, and try to do this for 30 seconds. This exercise is great for your spine, straightening your abdominals and hip flexors.

Russian Twist

Russian twists are amazing for strengthening your core, obliques, and spine and you can easily do them while sitting on your couch. Use weights, bottled water, or other heavy objects you can find in your home to add pressure if the basic version is too easy for you.

Couch Dips

Deadlifts are one of those exercises that you really need to work on the form to get the benefits of the exercise. It might look simple from the outside, but it’s actually really hard to perfect. The exercise is one of the best for the hamstrings and glutes and it’s done with the back and hips. Getting it right takes some work but it can be done. Here are some tips to get the most out of a deadlift.

The start position has to be correct; the bar should be even with the middle of your feet. Keep it close to your shins so you don’t strain your lower back to lift. Your back should be straight and your shoulder blades should be squeezed together.

Bend at your hips, making sure they are below your shoulders and above the knees. Engage your back and core by bracing and reach down to grab the bar with your hands outside your shins. Your grip can be both hands facing the shins or one hand facing away from you.

Lean back on your heels and keep your neck in line with your back. Pull the bar upwards keeping it in contact with your shins and bring up your hips and shoulders one after another.

Once you are up squeeze your abs, lats, and glutes and lower the bar back to the floor using the same form you lifted it with. Repeat 6 times.

Deadlifts are one of those exercises that you really need to work on the form to get the benefits of the exercise. It might look simple from the outside, but it’s actually really hard to perfect. The exercise is one of the best for the hamstrings and glutes and it’s done with the back and hips. Getting it right takes some work but it can be done. Here are some tips to get the most out of a deadlift.

The start position has to be correct; the bar should be even with the middle of your feet. Keep it close to your shins so you don’t strain your lower back to lift. Your back should be straight and your shoulder blades should be squeezed together.

Bend at your hips, making sure they are below your shoulders and above the knees. Engage your back and core by bracing and reach down to grab the bar with your hands outside your shins. Your grip can be both hands facing the shins or one hand facing away from you.

Lean back on your heels and keep your neck in line with your back. Pull the bar upwards keeping it in contact with your shins and bring up your hips and shoulders one after another.

Once you are up squeeze your abs, lats, and glutes and lower the bar back to the floor using the same form you lifted it with. Repeat 6 times.
